Hi Ya All,

This morning was my "change" as I was lining up my supplies I have one piece of equipment that has been with me over the years and that is my skin barrier. It is a product from Clinimed  called Clinishield. it is a wipe on protective skin barrier. Comes in a box of fifty wipes each in their own little packet. Its not for cleaning or removing but just use before putting the wafer on and simply wipe over the skin. I let it dry for a few minutes and apply wafer. Be aware it does contain alcohol and if their is any broken skin it WILL sting. In my years with a stoma it has kept my skin in very good shape and I have very sensitive skin so much so even before my ostomy I have always had to use non scented soap/shampoo. As far as I know the company does not test on animals (have checked online) and don,t appear to be on any blacklists. I just been counting I have done 4000 bag changes and used it every time.

John, barrier wipes are available from many companies .  I have used Hollister and am presently using Save N Simple barrier wipes.  I think that they all work the same.

You know, I really don't know since I have always used the protective wipes and never had any skin problems.  So I guess that they work fine.

Thanks for sharing that.  I've emailed Clinimed to see if their products use animal ingredients, but most barrier wipes will not.

On a side note re: wipes - if you use an extended wear wafer, it's generally advised that you don't use skin barrier products because it allegedly interferes with the adhesives. I'd suggest testing to see what works for you!

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
