Has anybody ever tried using baby oil mixed with a lubricant (I use adapt lubricant from Hollister) in their Ostomy bag ? I got the idea from a home remedies site . I had Ileostomy surgery 1 year ago on September 19th . So I am new and looking for suggestions .

Welcome to the forums!

I haven't tried it myself, but my main concern would be the oil compromising the wafer.

You have an ileostomy, but is your output thick enough to need a lubricating product? Usually, lubricants help when you have dry stools that stick to the inside of the bag.

Thank you Bag Master  . You are right my output is normally mostly liquid . I have been using the lubricant with a deodorizer I guess that's just what I started with from hospital . And the baby oil makes the lubricant last longer between supplies arriving  . But I recently tried using the Par-Sorb packets to make it more of a jell . Reading things saying the Par-Sorb could help with leaks by making a jell therefore  less chance of leaks . I haven't had any problem with the baby oil compromising my barrier . But everything does seem to empty easier and cleaner although I only use just enough oil to mix about 70 - 30 ratio .

Nice! If it's not causing you any trouble, I don't personally see any harm in using it.

I do use a baby oil and mix with a baby jell both by Johnston and Johnson. Using the these two products you can change the viscosity flow. I also do the same with adapt lubricant which will become white when mixed. I use the adapt bottles for using these mixtures .Shake the bottle before using to mix the two items. If you are using a Hollister    two piece, separate slightly at the top to lubricate from the top. The oil and jelly do come in different fragences. The frequency of use is yor decision.

Thank you.  Why use both the oil and jell rather than just jell or oil?

When you lubricate from the top you can adjust the flow going down the pouch since gravity takes over.

Thanks for the input Michaeloill . Sounds like we do about the same thing . I too use the Johnsons baby oil but just regular I didn't know you can get the oil  scented I'll have to look for that and give it a try . I also use the adapt lubricant bottle to mix them and just shake it a bit before use . I do use a Hollister 2 piece I use a lock an roll bag and just squirt a little in the bottom of the bag before I close it up and kinda rub it around in the bag .

Do use the baby jell when mixing with adapt or just the baby oil?

Fred I haven't tried the jell but I do use the oil along with Hollister deodorizing lubricant . Seems to maybe empty easier while still trying to deodorize at the same time .

I've used baby oil, a few drops each time I empty, successfully for the past three years. No issues with adhesion. I use Sensura Mio with Adapt paste. The baby oil really helps the poo to slide out.

Try using this combination with the oil or adapt. When using the jell with adapt it will turn white. When you look at the jell or oil you should the notice different color tops which indicate the fragrance. It is a mild  smell , I use  the green top
