Interesting thought - I have two of the Adapt rings left in this box, and for comparison took one from this box and one from the next box and looked at them side by side. The ones in the box I am almost done with are a slightly different color, more yellow, while the ones in the next box are more pink in tone. So, maybe this was just a weird batch. I could not see any difference in the packaging. I did like the two Coloplast Brava rings I tried. This morning I called Coloplast, and they are going to send me some sample pouches without filters and baseplates that are not pre-cut, to try. Colostomy 4/30/18. Hi, have you noticed any changes around your stoma? Coloplast has a body check on their website, which may help you to determine if you need a different system. I used the flat barrier and ring at first, and that just didn't cut it for me. I do use a light convex, and that has proven to work well in my circumstances. Is it possible that you may need a light convex? 🤔 I hadn’t thought about it in connection to how things have been fitting, but yes, my stoma has changed. It had a very slight tilt to the right when it was new, and that tilt has become more pronounced. When I get a leak it is always on that side. Stella, thank you. I am going to experiment with this, and a light convex just might do the trick. 😊 Colostomy 4/30/18. As far as the attaching the bag to the wafer, I have found if you line it up at the bottom and slide your hands up both sides applying some pressure, when you get to the top, it clicks in place pretty easily. -Liza Adapt rings were holding up better than the eakin rings re melting... But still melted more than the brava protective seal rings (not moldable). I also found the frame of either the click or the light/soft convex really made a huge difference. The wafer didn't get the usually perma dent from bending and moving that created space for leaks. Both have been game changers... The frame also places just enough pressure (even the flat waffer 2 piece mio click) to push out my efferent stoma the inactive stoma as I have a loop ileostomy. I think theusous that oozes from that inactive limb was getting under the ring and contributing to low wear time. It was very close to skin and tilted sideways... Now it is plump and nicely above the kin with the framed wafers (vs the flat one piece coloplast bags). I have tried the hollister adapt and eakin rings with the 2 piece bags that work better and max I can get 2 days, with brava seals I've gotten 4 days and even then I could feel some was under ring and irritating skin, but it didn't full get through ring and leak to under the waffer. These brava seals are incredible. I wonder of the shower is good as far as keeping things leak free? When I've used water to rinse the bag out I would get leaks so I decided not to shower without the bag figuring water was a nono for the waffer staying sealed and leak free? Did I assume wrong lol I'd love to shower that stoma at night if it won't cause leaks Hi Kathi, Regarding showering, are your leaks coming from the wafer or the filter of the bag? The wafer should hold up well during showers, and should not be causing leaks. However, rinsing your bag may be "risky" depending on how it's done. I would suggest not rinsing the bag out during your shower and doing it over a toilet where you might have more control. See if that's any better. I am working on an article about rinsing bags, which can offer additional tips. Stay tuned for that :) Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hi Kathi, I rinse when I empty, pouring in a little cup of water into the bottom of the bag. The stoma nurse advised me to shower with my back to the shower head, which I do, and the shower has not affected wear time. As far as removing the pouch and showering with just the plate on - I do that occasionally, when the pouch has “had it” and the plate still looks good. It has not affected the ring as far as I can tell. LL Colostomy 4/30/18. Thanks. I will certainly devour any such article lol. I was wondering about showering with just the wafer, no bag and if that would cause the ring to weaken and let stool get under it faster... Bc when I've rinsed it (filling bag with water kind of swishing it around and dumping Into toilet... I would get stool seeping under the barrier ring some amount of hours after. I'm still very much a noob so my reaction was YIKES haha maybe water is too thin and I should avoid water exposure altogether. (I'm also pretty frugal/limited budget so of course the trial and error I'd prefer to engage in to find out for sure feels costly) thanks for all the input. It's so nice to see ppl able to contribute experiences on this site💖 I don't K ow if I was clear... As is often the case for my aspergian self... I have absolutely no issue showering with a pouch on attached to wafer, or a one piece coloplast sensura mio... I was afraid to shower with no bag and just the mio click wafer. I was wondering about showering with just the wafer, no bag and if that would cause the ring to weaken and let stool get under it faster I think the same "rules" apply when showering with just the wafer on. I would avoid direct water jets on the stoma/wafer as it may cause the wafer to erode or water to get between the stoma and wafer. Under normal circumstances, I don't see it as being a huge concern. Just keep in mind that some wafers are less durable with liquid output and water contact, so they may "melt" faster with prolonged or frequent exposure to shower water. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. On my fourth day of a Sensura Mio two-piece sample with Brava ring, and so far pretty good. The pouch does not have a filter, and the baseplate is a cut-your-own. I think that the inside of the pouch is more slippery than the Hollister, which I like - no pancaking so far, and I am quite a pancaker. Not crazy about the wide tail or the flap on one side of the tail - between emptying, a very small amount of liquid seems to gather there at the very bottom, and I wonder if it might leak at the sides of the tail if I went too long between emptying. In theory it should be possible to burp these, but both times I tried it the pouch just came off and had to be re-attached. I don’t find it a big deal to release air thru the tail, and I always felt that burping the Hollister was a little risky. Colostomy 4/30/18. I love the little flap on the tail. When I close it, I fold the flap I’ve the opening and do the other folds and Velcro it. When I go to empty it, I unfold it and use the little Velcro dots to stick the flap to the back of the tail. I like the stiff tail end for emptying. And when the extra flap is velcroed to the back you can stick your finger in there to pull the bag open. I always clean the opening before I unvelcro the flap to close it up. I have tried a couple bags with different openings either very thin plastic that seem very difficult to deal with. In my opinion, the Sensura Mio with the wide opening and tail flap are the easiest to empty. -Liza @squeakyandliza I am having better results emptying when not folding/velcro-ing the flap back - things actually empty very well. Do you find some liquid at the edge of that flap when you open to empty? I wonder if I am doing this correctly. With that one exception I think the Sensure Mio 2-piece (with no filter, the Brava seal, and the cut-your-own baseplate) might be working better for me than what I have been using. I have had an occasional problem with the coupling separating at the bottom of the Hollister 2-piece, and it looks like that would be really unlikely with the Mio click. Colostomy 4/30/18. In theory it should be possible to burp these, but both times I tried it the pouch just came off and had to be re-attached. I would not suggest burping out the flange on the Mio (or most Coloplast 2pc systems) because the flange isn't nearly as flexible as with other brands, so it's going to be really difficult to open just a small section to allow gas out. I have had an occasional problem with the coupling separating at the bottom of the Hollister 2-piece, and it looks like that would be really unlikely with the Mio click. If the lock is engaged correctly on the Mio, I see no way for it to come off! Do you find some liquid at the edge of that flap when you open to empty? I wonder if I am doing this correctly. I've had this happen on a few different products. How I tend to solve it is to make sure that nothing is in the last 3" or so of the outlet before I close it, which is easy to accomplish by rolling up some toilet paper like a tube and spinning it around in the outlet: It's important to angle the outlet up a bit while you are closing it, so no liquid slides down at the same time. Once it's all rolled up, liquid shouldn't be able to get past those folds. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy I gave these 2 pc click mio's a try.Day 5 unclicked the locking ring with the intention of moving bag to a different position.Released via the tab and the locking ring promptly came off and fell on the floor! Tried to put it back on (under plastic ring) but it isn't very secure. I like the idea of the click lock but wouldn't feel confident after this mornings experience.Too flimsy. .Released via the tab and the locking ring promptly came off and fell on the floor! Oh, wow! Do you have a photo of the locking mechanism (even still on the bag)? I wonder if anything changed since I last used this appliance. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. @veganostomy Sorry Eric it's in the bin! I don't blame you, but if you have any issues with an appliance in the future, try to take photos and record the lot number on the package. Sometimes it helps to refer back to those details, but I also suggest that anyone who has issues with their appliance to report it to the manufacturer. 👌 Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
