Thank you. I'm still trying to get more details from several brands, so the article will be updated as often as those details come in.

It would be helpful if any members could check the boxes on any supplies they currently have, and let me know the country of origin.

Some brands manufacturer different items in different places, which makes it a little tricky to know. 🤪

Thank you so much for this information, Eric. As I’m from the US, I have to tell you it makes my blood run cold when I hear some of the comments, judgements and absolute bullying that has been coming from our prez (my cousin refers to him as The Orange Menace). You have to know that not all of us wanted him where he is, and an awful lot of us are unhappy with his actions. Personally, I’m mortified that we have an adult in his position either acting like a big baby or like he’s King of the World. Keep up all your good work and stay healthy!

I’m from the U.S. and Rump is NOT my representative. He’s a disgusting racist, homophobic, misogynistic, narcissist. I’m embarrassed that my country fell under his spell. I hope we can once again earn your respect in the future. Thanks for your support of the ostomy community.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for sharing this list. I get the same questions from my clients and patients about buying Canadian. I will pass this on to them.
Welland Medical, while not as well known as the other brands, is available across Canada. I have some items in stock with the retailers I work with. If they would like samples, especially their black pouches, but I don't have them on hand, I will provide them with Premier Ostomy's contact information or contact them myself.

Eakin rings and, to a lesser extent, wound managers are popular. Unfortunately, the MoodVi line of pouches under their Pelican brand is currently unavailable in Canada.

A UK company that is new to Canada, with its line of abdominal and hernia support wear, is suportx.co.uk and has a Canadian distributor.

Thanks so much, Eric. I will send out your email to all our Chapter members here in Moncton, New Brunswick. I actually have a list of most all your videos in a welcome package for all new ostomates or new members to our Chapter.

MARLEN COMPANY

Marlen’s Head Office is based in BEDFORD OHIO,USA. This company is completely the opposite of what you are recommending in your email.

I would suggest; PROMOTE CANADIAN COMPANIES ONLY. I believe that Nightingale Medical is a Canadian Company. There is a web site called ‘Pacific Surgical (Family of Companies). This site has a lot on information for Canadians

The Head Office should be based in Canada along with all supplies made in Canada.

Would you provide a list of Canadian Companies (only), based in Canada that make our Canadian products (Not from other countries)

Thank you.

Hey M.

I haven't listed Marlen in the article or email, so I'm a little confused.

There are quite a large number of Canadian owned medical suppliers (both retail and online), but I've tried to only source manufacturers for this list, as it wouldn't make sense to have just a huge directly of retailers.

Regarding location and manufacturing, I've listed those above for the companies I've added.

There's a bit of a grey area with a few companies that I've left off the list. Some are based in Canada, but only sell products (under their own name brand) that are made overseas. Not to dilute this list, I've left quite a few of those companies off.

Any other feedback is greatly appreciated, as I want this list to be as concise and accurate as possible.

Eric

Hi Eric. Thank you for your quick response. I had never heard of this company but it was in the email that was originally sent to my inbox. I cannot find it now either. Strange.

Eric I do appreciate your respectable response. Thank you.

Hi Eric,

Again, thank you for listing the Canadian companies. As I have been receiving some inquiries, I will add that there is a smaller group of people who use reusable ostomy pouches, but the manufacturer's are all based in the US.

Eric, I’m sorry to be hitchhiking on this post, but I’m a newbie and can’t figure out how to post my question - so I’m here.
Getting a colostomy on Thursday and I’ve been watching your wonderful videos.
When you change your bag out I noticed you didn’t empty it - just tossed it. Should I do this also? Is it easier?
Thanks!

@jerseygirl Hey, don't worry about it :) Since you're on the forum, I can just separate out your question into a different thread of its own, which I'll do after I know you see this reply!

Basically, I'll empty my bag before doing the appliance change. Since it's possible that my stoma may still be outputting between the time I empty, and the time a new bag goes on, I don't stress about having to empty it again.

Emptying it before a change also makes it easier than managing a heavy bag, too.

If you've got a "closed" bag (that is, one that does not have an outlet), then you'd generally toss the entire thing out without emptying it. Preferably, you'll want to put it into a sealed bag, so to trap any odours.

Once I'm done changing my appliance, I just dispose of the old bag and any soiled supplies I used.

I hope that helps!

Hi Eric,

Reusable as in drainable, or reusable as in "there's some kind of liner in it, and they keep using the outer bag"? I'm certain I've heard of a product like the latter.

That would be a hard one to replace, unless they wanted to go with a totally different (and more traditional setup).

I don't expect anyone to change their actual appliance if what they are using works.

But, since I've done that so many times in the past for my reviews, it can sometimes work out for the best! 🤣

Hi Eric,

I'm referring to pouching systems made of latex and/or vinyl that are attached using glue or a belt setup. The most common brands are Nu-Hope, Torbot and Perma-Type.

Ah, the reusable wafers! I've always been interested in trying them, along with non-adhesive appliances (just to see). For sure, those listed are dramatically different from what you'd normally find, and it could very well be the type of system you might only find in the States.
