Hi, everyone!  I'm TokyoMX from, well, Tokyo, Japan.  I just got the ostomy 8 days ago.  Feeling  much better but still in hospital for a couple of weeks.  Hope to talk to you all soon!

Welcome to the forum, @tokyomx!

How has your experience been so far? I know nothing about the healthcare system in Tokyo, but I'm very interested in learning more!

TokyoMX ... Welcome to VO!  Its good surgery has helped you feel better. Don't  let your Ostomy overwhelm you.  Take one hour at a time.

Here we can help you deal with "most" questions that do not require a Physician.  We have all sorts of tips from a lot of experience in finding what can work with issues you may come across,  know that no question is a stupid question!!  We have all had questions & finding VO as quickly as you have means you won't have to swim alone.

Keep hydrated & take those walks they will help in healing too!  Best wishes & thank you for introducing yourself!!

Linda

Wow, thank you all for a warm welcome!

I'm already getting tons of information from the forum.  I want to get back on my dirtbike in a few month, so I'll be asking when it's time!

@tokyomx  ... Dirt Biking is so much Fun! But please be careful with this sport & make sure you get your Surgeons okay before you get on that dirt bike. The last thing you want is to open up something inside you can't see or to damage your stoma.   Do you race??

My Dad was Number 1 Old Timer in  Canada back in the 70's, lol! Seems like eons ago now that I said 70's! Lololol!  That year he also was the first to receive the two trophies together as he also rec'd the Sportsmanship Trophey at the same time.  Those races were so much fun to watch. Also check with your Surgeon if wearing the kidney belt,  (assuming you wear one) is okay for your stoma.  There are lots of stoma protectors out there so check them out too.  Eric has a video on them.

Thats such a FABULOUS goal for you to reach for!  Be sure & let us know when you achieve it!

I'm glad your finding Erics site so helpful. There is lots of info here & he's working very hard tp keep this site  running & up to date. Thank you Eric!!

Heal Well!!

@veganostomy  I mostly just ride for fun, but race maybe a couple of times a year, for fun.

I'm 52yo and been doing this for almost 40 years.  I can't stop now.😊

@dlkfiretruck Thanks for your advice!  Cool story about your dad too!

My new 2023 came in just a week before I got admitted to the hospital, so I had to take it out for a quick ride.  I couldn't push it too much but it was cool!

Yes, I will listen to my doctor for advice.  I'm only planning a walking for workout for a month, and then something light for a while.

I have bigger problem on my butt cheeks rather than my ostomy at moment.

I had 3 radiation treatment over 2 years for my cancer, that caused lots of damages on my butt cheeks.  The doctor had to take my leg muscle and skin and stitch up to my butt, but it's so big that it feels like someone is sticking a foot up my butt all the time.  I'm told the muscle will shrink in about 3 month or so, will see how comfortable it will feel with road bicycling or riding motorcycles.

See ya!

That will likely take some time, but just as an anecdote:

I got into cycling this past year, after not being able to get on one for a very long time due to my illness, then post-surgery concerns.

The first few weeks were really uncomfortable, to the point that I was thinking maybe it wasn't a good idea. Lots of sharp pain in the rear cheeks.

I got a new saddle, padded cycling shorts, suspension seat post... anything to make it better. But the more I rode, the easier things got, as if the ass needed to be "broken in". 🤣

These days, I'm riding without any padded shorts, even on a hard tail mountain bike with no special saddle or anything.

Take things slow once you've healed and been cleared to ride, then see how it goes. 👍

Hello Tokyomx, welcome! You landed  in the best place here for Ostomy information. The hospital sends us home with only basic information and it’s nice to be able to come here and get loads of information and tips from people who have experience having an Ostomy. I’m certain that the information within this website is going to make your journey much easier.

Hi Tokyomx , hope your recovery goes well , I would suggest getting a support belt to prevent hernia problems , I didn't and got one shortly after my surgery , welcome to the forum , ask anything , no matter how embarrassing it seems , I don't think any of us get embarrassed anymore by ANYTHING

welcome.     good luck in your recovery.

listen to your body and take it slow.     too much too soon will cause major setbacks........
