What kind of closure do you prefer on your drainable bags?

I posted this question up on Facebook and had quite a surprisingly varied answer - many people preferred clipped bags (which surprised me) and many still like the velcro closures.

I personally like the closure found on Coloplast bags (like the Sensura Mio) because they are easy to open/close, clean, and secure. But I'll settle for the "press n' seal" closure you'd find on Hollister or B. Braun bags.

So what do you guys like?

I think Coloplast has one of the best/easiest drainable pouch's available in the U.S.  Can't stand clipped pouches for a few reasons; the clips can snag on clothing, dropped in towel, break and by design the opening of the pouch is smaller making cleaning an extra pain.  Not that the Mio Click pouch is perfect but they seem to have a very user friend drainable pouch.  Another thing that sets them apart is they use a soft rubber material instead of hard plastic.  I really dislike Holister's system of double sided hard plastic, try squeezing both sides as to fully empty the pouch and it creates a vacuum almost and an act of God (or whatever deity you may or may not subscribe to) to get the pouch open again.  Brawn is slightly better in this department but imo they could do a re think in this area, it's not bad but it could be better.  So in summary Clips are old school and Velcro seems to be taking it's place of for the most part.  Hope I didn't make make the Clip ppl to angry with me, lol.

Re: the frustration you have with Hollister closures, one thing I do is the crease the outlet when I change into a new bag. This crease makes it far easier to open!

I like the  Coloplast  Sensura Mio two piece , I find that its very easy to open for emptying and cleaning , flushing , I liked the feel of the Hollister two piece as well but I found it very hard to open the end to empty/drain the output ,

The velcro closing on the coloplast is really secure and the only mishaps I have caused were self inflicted , like this morning for instance , I went to the toilet and unfastened the Velcro , got distracted and all of the sudden the bag had decorated the bathroom floor , my slippers and pajama bottoms ,

A few months ago I would have been in tears , this morning I got a fit of the giggles and just got on and cleaned it up ,

Anyway enough going off topic , be well and thanks Eric for a great site .

You haven't truly lived as an ostomate unless this happens to you at least once! 😂 Glad you were able to laugh it off!

Spigots all day every day. I tried the Velcro closures only to find that it gets really messy really quickly. My output is just too thin for any sort of wide outlet, and I really don't trust clips not to mention the worry about losing or dropping a very necessary part of the bag closure.

Spigots are a fantastic option for dealing with liquid output! I had a bag with a spigot when I spent a few days in the hospital.

Which brand are you using?

I have developed an affinity for Coloplast Sensura Magnum High Output Ileo bags with Coloplast Assura Click wafers. The only downside is that only one large urostomy drainage bag for overnight has a large enough adapter, but I am grateful I managed to find one that is compatible. At night time or even if I am just hanging out at home I tire of emptying every hour or so (I know I use a huge bag anyway by most people's standards, but that's to give me the room should I need it at any point and also to keep the warmth of the output as far away from me as possible), so I connect to a Hollister urinary overnight bag for a full 2 liter capacity.
