Hi Robert, sorry to hear yer not feelin the best Lad, yep not a bad idea to give Norman a bit of support. A sneeze can be a pretty rough event that's why we blink when we sneeze!! Over here from October each year any one over 65 or deemed to be at risk gets the flu jab, but not an ostomate, always have thought that unfair.

Is there anything special to do if vomiting ? I'm guessing probably the same thing just hold on .

Anytime I engage my abdominal muscles (coughing, sneezing, vomiting, etc.) I always try to use my hand for added support over my stoma. 

It's a good preventative measure since I'm sure those hernias come from innocent situations.

Why is it that they won't give an ostomate the flu jab ? My doc gave me one about a month ago . Is there a reason why we shouldn't get them ?

I think that reason could be down to money

Flu jab?  I got mine with no issues.. In fact I got 2 different kinds of that shot-- Why r we in the wrong side??

My opinion is that it has to do with our depressed immune systems. Much of our immune system is in our gut and we are missing a good part of it.

Fyi I looked up sublingual B-12 and unfortunately it contains sugar, sorbitol, etc. which can cause diarrhea. So I will pass on it.

I too can not take sugar free stuff but there is a micro amount in Sublingual B12 that it causes no ill effect. It's the only way your body will obsorb it . Otherwise you must start getting shots in a large muscle like your butt or thigh . Do not do arm . You will need to take shot once a month . You will not obsorb it in your gut . Give it a try . Buy a high quality. I use Country life Methyl B-12. I take 5000 mcg.

Maybe I have something wrong as I cant gain weight-- went down to 112 today-- And I eat and eat and eat. with joy!! Not laughing at the scale tho-- I get kinda pissed... :-( 

Went to infusion today and before that I gave Nellie a new dress. Well when I go there, I had a big BLOW OUT!!  In the waiting room--All over myself-- went home, did it again- and back to club med-- Sooooo embarrassed!! BUt then nurses understood.   Nellie is acting up!! 

Hi Marcie, Never nice and it rocks ye for a bit but accidents do happen. Deep breath and back in the game. The weight gain as long as you are healthy and making progress it will come.

Ya, I almost cried on the way home for my clean up- but didn't,,,,,,,,, The lobby was empty- but all knew inside-the staff-I don't care.. A little pitty for me.. (they don't want a Nellie)surprised that I came back so fast with a grin on my face.  And proceeded as always- Had to clean up the steering wheel and the seat belt.. Shoved my maturnity jeans in the sink to soak and my  nice top (that has to be dryed cleaned) I had to soak.. a bit-- But the laundry is just about done..  Looked nice going in first-but I just grabbed my gray sweets that were on the bath room floor and dashed back out again, with my shoes on the wrong feet.. Even if I had a change of clothes, There was NO way that I could have presented myself as CLEAN anyways.

My doctor prescribed codeine sulfate. It puts my kishkas down for a  nap. Maybe,  it will take your Nellie down a notch or two.

Once things quiet down , your body will start to work to absorb the nourishing,  fattening nutrition from the food that you are eating. 

Caution : it's an opioid . 

The point is, ye coped, sorted and carried on !!

Also, could it be possible that you are eating too much at a time?

When I eat too much,  my system overworks in a disastrous manner,  to say it nicely. Your last "blowout " happened after the Thanksgiving stuffing. Is there a corelation ?

Zvitusk, you are right on the money, a large meal for me leads to being uncomfortable and then a stoma that's doing somersaults. I find small regular meals work better.

Pretty much knocked my eating down a bit- dosent seem to make any difference in my weight gain-- After the holidays seeing someone-- Dr.-my Primary went to her last month almost in tears...... I have NO FIGHTING WEIGHT if I get sick, and I am loosing more and more..  Did major blood work.. Looks great.. Got to dig like I did when I found out I needed To give myself B-12 shots-but that is just a survival thing..  MY surgeon  cant help  me.. "just pay me the 15,000 for the surgery and your off honey"  Blood work shows no cancer.. But not asking for any other problems as of right now-- and I could not handle cancer treatments.. 

Got work to do........  Need a specialist  --but so far they cant help me either..
