Finally proctectomy and anus sew up complete.  Was in hospital 6 days, but they tried their darndest to get me outin4 days. (Really!)

biggest problem nausea again!

no NG this time, They did something I never heard of before…stuck a tube in my ostomy to help straighten things out which worked. Tube came out by itself and my nausea is at a minimum slowly decreasing each day, able to eat very well.  but could not get a catheter stop.

biggest issue is after catheter removal I could not Pee..so they put it back in for a couple days tried again..still cannot Pee, now home with it I’m scheduled to see urologist hopefully I will be able to pee next week.  Tell me to walk frequently, take anti inflammatory, no opioids, and this is very common.

they said every anatomy is different and nerves can get inflamed and will tone down..fingers crossed.

Rick...I've never had to have that surgery. Everybody heals differently. Be patient with yourself & your body, its gone through a lot of changes. I'm sure the walking will help  but don't push yourself too hard just yet,  try two small walks instead of one long one. Everything in due time. Drink your  fluids to help,wash the meds out of your system. Heal well.

Rick, glad to hear that the surgery went well. Having been through this myself, I can tell you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just be patient and know that you’ll get there eventually. I agree with what Linda said about not pushing yourself too hard. Your body needs some babying for a little bit.

Congrats, Rick! I had pain and discomfort peeing after surgery, but that got better as my body healed. I hope you have a speedy recovery :)

Yup, I've been there, done that. I was also using a Foley for three weeks after I got out of the hospital. It was no fun, but my urologist succeeded where my surgeon's staff could not. I was self catherizing for about  three months before I could successfully do it on my own. One of the problems I had was that when the surgery was as done they used morphine in my lower spine. It took quite a while before I could actually feel that I had to go. To this day I still have to breathe into my bladder to get it to release.

Are you seeing an urologist? That might make a difference.

@bloodhound

my anus sew up is going on 8 months..I can do most everything I used to, even ride my recumbent bike. But I am always cautious about squatting or spreading my cheeks too wide, only issue is I apply ointment after each shower in morning on sew up area and pat warm wash cloth  before bed. If I don’t do this I develop a sore diaper rash type spot n area around sew up area.

I can pee with 2 tamsalosine a day, still have problem at night, real slow to pee so I use a urinal laying down which works well.. for some odd reason I will struggle with peeing even during day if I let me bladder fill too much, I believe anatomy of my prostate and bladder after surgery has made this problem worse, even though I have had BPH years before all this surgery started.

I have had all testing done with urologist and they want me to have green light laser to hollow out my enlarged prostate, but at this point I am Leary of all medical procedures.

once in a while I get a strange pain in the empty rectum area, only once or twice every few weeks.

hope this helps

Hey Rick I just had proctectomy surgery on the 11th of February  . Sounds like you are having issues even after 8 months sorry this is happening for you . Your experience is enlightening me . I hadn't thought about nore was I told not to spread my checks or worry about squatting  . I will keep that in mind now though . I guess I have been lucky . I was in hospital only 4 days . I did have small problems after catheter was removed for several days . And had pain in my side after eating for bout week and a half . And one night after being home I had a blockage my first in over 5 years of having my Ileostomy it was no fun . But did finally clear itself with messaging and heating pad. Still sitting on a cushion but things are getting better . Watching fiber intake for awhile and not lifting over 15 lbs . I'm curious how did they do your surgery? Mine was done robotically in Loma Linda University Hospital in California . 6 hour surgery had a Great doctor and hospital staff . Good luck to ya
