I never wore a belt with any appliance so I don’t think that was the issue. I just read your replies above and I’m wondering if you are burping the Mio? I avoid filter issues by not using them. My thick output renders them useless after a day so I use filterless pouches with the osto ez vents and de-gas that way. I can imagine if you’re trying to burp the Mio click you may be getting some output on the flange. I actually can’t imagine burping this system like I did with the Hollister—the coupling on the Mio is too tight for that!

Another thought is if you use oil on the flange this may be the odor on your fingers. This happened to me when I tried greasing it up to allow for rotation. I could figure out what the hell was going on. I’ve since abandoned this as I can’t wear it sideways anyway. My stoma hits at my belt line so if I rotate then the entire pouch sits at my waistband. Not doable.
The SBO may have been the worst experience yet. The NGT placement and 5 days of decompression was a nightmare and I think I’ll need sedation if I have to do that again. I would rather live with the exorcist style vomiting than go through that again. This sh*t is not for the faint of heart.

Instead of cutting out the filter, which I agree are bulky and useless, you can order filterless bags. Save yourself the hassle.
I wish you the best in acclimating to life with an ostomy. It has its ups and downs but, as I keep reminding myself, always better than the alternative ;-)

Folks getting the right system can be very frustrating and disheartening, it’s a big life style change. Ok you are always been told it’s gonna get easier!! But I will and the system ya settle with will be a blessing and life will get back to normal

I am unsure if it's the outlet that's producing the odor - I wipe it out with TP and a wet wipe each time. Good thought on swapping bags. I don't have any extras to try it with right now, but once the order I placed today arrives I can give it a go! And yes, 6 times is a lot. Prior to my surgery my old ileostomy was at about 2-3 per day.

I have not attempted to burp the Mio yet. My sample bags I got have a filter and it seems to have worked "well enough" last night, but I don't anticipate it will work reliably beyond that. I also have not tried oiling the flange yet, but I can totally see why that might have been problematic for you. I think the machine oil I used previously is odorless, but I'd have to double check myself next time I bust out the bottle. Per your description of the SBO all I can say is I am so sorry for your experience and I hope it never happens again. My surgeon did mention NGT a few times to me after my last surgery but things never progressed to that - hearing how terrible of an experience it was for you makes me so grateful it did not. But I know you are 100% correct in your assertion that this sh*t is not for the faint of heart. It's not. Good on you for pushing through it.

I use Mio Click ,

and at each bag change ,

I use the q tip to press around my stoma to seal my ring well ,

then I put some of my lubricant/ deodorant

Around the connecting ring on the bag and flange , that makes it easier to connect and also to be able to twist it later
