I have a question about juices and Ilestomies . I have an Ilestomy but my output isn't always as liquidy  as I think its supposed to be . I'm sure its because of how I eat . I am a meat and potatoes guy and not much on vegetables . I have read things about things like Grape juice being good to drink and it thinning things out I have tried it and seems to help . Thinking maybe orange juice might help also ? So the question I have is . Has anybody elese ever heard of this helping or tried it ? Or is it all just in my head ? Ha . I appreciate any input anybody might have .

Various fruit juices can have a profound effect on our output.

I personally find a cup of prune juice to be very effective in "flushing out my system".

The common juices for thinning out our output are apple juice, prune juice, and grape juice. Orange juice should also work.

You may need to experiment with the quantity of juice you're consuming, type of juice, and the timing, but you should notice something.

Feel free to report back with your findings :)

Hello Bag Master . I have been drinking about 6oz of Grape juice at night when things seem to be thickening and I am glad to hear its not just in my head that it does seem to work . I have never been a fan of Prune juice or to big on Apple juice so I tried the Grape because I did like it . I am gonna try Orange and I will let you know how it goes .

Thanks again Bag Master  ! Your site and other ostomates experiences are really helpful .

Hehe. I wouldn' say I really like prune juice (I find it causes heartburn), but it works better for me than anything else 😊

Good luck and let us know how things go.

Good morning to all .  Here is an update on orange juice compaired to grape juice for me anyway . Been drinking a few ounces of orange juice at night if things started to thicken and for me it is working the same as grape juice thins things out and are eaiser to manage . Also a plus side is I get to change up what I drink .

That's great to hear, Robert. Do you have any other juices in mind for more experimentation?

hehe, good luck!

Make note of whether these juices have added sugar or not. That could make a difference to how it affects your output.

I agree. I really avoid sugar. If I eat anything like desert, or anything with added sugar  my output turns to glue. Not easy to empty the bag or get it to flush. I hope thats not TMI?

Well, I don't think it's too much tmi. Was talking with a nurse about how I can "hack" my system to deliver manageable output by what I eat or drink. Not had the glue poo with the Ilieo, but then I pour water in bag before I empty so it does not get a chance to stick.

Hi again,

Glue poo has a nice alliteration, don't you think?

I too have an llieo, but my output is really variable depending on what I eat. I strive to keep it steady, but its not always easy. I don't use any water when I empty. Its amazing how everyone copes!

Hope it all went well for you today, Felicity.

Yep. That illiteration is fantastic.

Mine varies wildly, I do hack for thickness at work so my bag does not slosh as much.

Apple Pie gave me nice consistency but the apple chunks hung out for a long time, through a bowel prep...

Went about how I expected it would. Wonder what I can get installed in all the empty space I'll have in my gut.

I would get a pouch installed to hold my extra ostomy supplies!  Then I could stop looking for the perfect hand bag.

I moved from a large satchel type purse to a backpack to hold my stuff. I need a better way to store supplies in my backpack. Considering a travel toiletries bag that can hang on a bathroom stall door to throw in my backpack.

Zappos is my favorite place to search for bags ( and other stuff too). They have free shipping BOTH ways and a 365 day return policy for new things.  And things are delivered REALLY fast.

This bag looks pretty good ( I have been thinking of getting one too). Also, lots of their things have a video you can watch...It really helps when trying to figure out the ACTUAL size of an item) Good luck! and its kind of fun too:

I guess we have moved a fair way out of the JUICES subject! Ah well.

Sorry Eric.

Hey Eric I really liked your review of the inexpensive ostomy bag last weekend.  I am glad you do those tests so we won't have to. That one looked pretty sketchy. Anyway, thanks.

one more...Baggalini is a very good make of bag. I have several and they are great for stashing my 'stuff'. This looks like a nice travel one and it has a hanging hook.:
