Exactly, Eric.  My insurance pays 70%, but I have to get through my $850 deductible first.  Pricey.

Okay.  I got distracted with some Coloplast samples (which I loved), but back to the Hollister two piece with no barrier.  Changed bags this morning.  I went with no barrier ring.  Liking the way it feels and the seal that I got.  I'll keep you posted.

Alright.  I just did a four-day wear of the Hollister with no barrier ring.  Absolutely no problems.  My skin looks great.  I love the feel of the flange with no barrier ring.  This was a successful experiment for me.

Hi Glenn, hope this setup works for you! I use the exact same gear and have for some time now. I have tried Coloplast products in the past but prefer Hollister's 2-piece for whatever reason. I have a ton of Adapt Slim barrier rings, but don't really care for them. All of my nurses insist they are amazing, but like you I have found that they tend to erode and allow output where it shouldn't be. I also have really oily/sweaty hands and if I mess with the ring too much before placing it on the wafer it doesn't stick to my skin very well. I actually really like Hollister's Adapt Paste. I typically use a Cavilon skin prep wipe on my skin and then apply the wafer with a thin layer of paste around the opening. It's far more economical than barrier rings, and for me far more effective.

Hi Kyle,

I have found for me, the paste is much more effective that the barrier rings.  Everyone keeps saying how great the rings are, but they just don't work for me.  I apply the paste directly to my skin, rather than on the wafer.  My stoma nurse was surprised by that, but it works for me.  At least better than anything else so far.

Liza,

Isn't it funny how that works? I guess that's what makes us individuals and why one thing works for some and not others. I became so frustrated trying to make the rings work just because I kept being told they were so good. I finally stumbled across a video on YouTube where a fellow ostomate was explaining her difficulties with them and suggested trying the paste instead. Voila! No issues since the switch.
