Hello,

I learned from my rep at my DME that Hollister is currently making changes to all of their products in which will take up into the next year to finish. She did not have info on what changes but I know a whole lot of you here wear Hollister. I use the rings. I was wondering if any of you have heard any news about this?.I'd be interested to know.

Thanks for that tip.

The last time Hollister updated their appliances, it was a step back. I've since become sensitive to their adhesive, so I haven't worn Hollister bags for years now.

But if they are improving their products, rather than "improving" them (i.e. to lower production costs), then maybe this will be a step in the right direction.

I would be surprised of they changed all their products. This could affect people who don't want or need a change, and may cause people who have had no issues in the past to suddenly develop issues.

@veganostomy yes this is why I was wondering  if any of you heard anything. I use the rings and are the only rings I can use so im a little nervous..

I was never able to use thier bags as I could not seem to be able to keep one on . If I remember right , it was not the adhesive but that the tape collars would not stick enough and the bags would fall off or leak. Also the closure s  would leak on the bags tail.

If the do really improve them as you say and not just going cheaper then maybe I may be able to use some of thier stuff other than just rings although I am quite happy with convatec at the moment.  Always have been.

I ordered supplies and I guess this is the new cerarings. They no longer say adapt but now say cera plus. Attached a picture.

Have yet to try one and I hope they will work for me.

@chelly Let us know how they work! Their "cera" products can be helpful if you've got dry skin.

@veganostomy I do have dry skin. Ive been using the ceraring for about 5 years now. I think these have that flextend adhesive in them. I put one on today and so far so good. They are hard to get out of the package now though. They have them packaged just like the brava rings now. I tried another regular adapt ring from my sample and its a no go. Was already leaking around the stoma only a few hours later.

I, like you cannot wear hollister either. Im not allergic but one fell off me in the car on the way home from the stoma nurse years ago. It traumatized me so much that  i won't even try them again. I like my convatec but the durahesive can get to be a bit much sometimes. Very sticky and hard to get the build up off the skin.

@chelly & all... I've recently learned that the only pouches they were "improving" on were the two pieces.  I just came right out and asked the girl on the phone. I hate messing around with such information & I hope shes got hers right.

I had one Hollister pouch open on the end for me & it was when I noticed the velcro had become much shorter looking then previous pouches. Though hollister denied any change at all! Lolol! They denied changes too,  when after covid started and the same plastics were not available and so many of us noticed we now had a 'stink' about us requiring more frequent changes, ever 2 or 3 days,  and more M9 in our pouches too. Ugh!  "Hollister" changes make me feel overstretched & jaded...!  I'm pretty sure they must know what works by now. How about changing that hard poke on our legs from the opening....??

That's not good! It reminds me of the twist-off tops they use in pretty much all 2L containers of juice and non-dairy milk. They used to stick out enough to easily grasp with your fingers to twist off... then "they" (all of them!) started using caps that were half the height! Not as easy to get off, and not as reliable, either!

@dlkfiretruck i will not use any velcro or the like tail ends after my ordeal with mio.  No matter what, that poo goes down to the end so its getting down there where the velcro folds and if you get into a bind where you cant empty right a way it gets heavier and heavier. Pushing down on that end, which is then pushing to where the smells can come out. The sides of the folded end.

Whenever I hear the new improved on anything I'm like, oh no, here we go. It's more like the we can't afford ingredients anymore and we're going cheaper. And this is exactly what it is.

@chelly  ... I feel the same on new & improved products! Like really? Seriously? Ask Us, the wearer what needs improvement!  I hear you on the leak thing. As you said, "the poo goes down to the end so it's getting down there where the velcro folds."  Correct me if I'm wrong, you only started using M9 recently, right??  So, yes, you may have noticed odor a lot sooner & more offensive then those using M9.  I have very arthritic hands & finger joints, so the one time the velcro came undone it made me aware of the velcro was shorter, tho Hollister denied changes,  I've since applied more pressure doing up the velcro completely omitting velcro coming undone, but increasing in my joint pain...lol!

As you know, I experienced the tiny leaks too.  since, I've been taping the sides of the drain spout tightly pulling tape around the edges, I use black electricians tape, I've had zero leaks in that area for up to 8 days wear time taping the draining areas up in 4 key places.  I first wipe well with rubbing alcohol to get a good tape stickiness happening.  I tape the folds on the creases. I've spent too much time dealing with those annoying embarassing leaks and after many different remwdies & trials,  I found the electricians tape is the best. I stopping at electricians tape but still want to try  Time consuming, yes, but to me its worth it. I spent time checking areas for leaks on used but cleaned up bags with my magnifying glass & black paper put into the throat of the bag drainage area and I found the places leaks occurred were at the flap for the velcro closure on the corners. I could see the tiny, tiny holes in the plastic when I placed black paper into the mouth of the bag and looked close enough to see the holes. The areas where the folds occur had tiny tears. I figure bcuz the hard plastics in the fold up area are a tad too close together causing the softer plastic to tear with multiple uses, after three days wear time,  and then as you mentioned, the sides. Again, from multiple uses occurring after 3 days wear time with a high frequency output from an ileostomy with S.G.S.  For added leak prevention I also add tape at the very opening right on one side of the very top edge of the small edge of clear plastic that folds at the opening. The other place I tape is on the flap for the velcro and then Concentrating on the corners pointing to the end of the drain opening, taping at a downward angle on the hard plastic pieces & wrapped around the back of the pouch seems to give added support to the area where output weight would be carried. This was where holes were bigger, sooner & constant after 3 or 4  days. I've found taping up seems to have solved the tiny leak problems.

Yay! However,  Its so dumb we have to deal with these tiny leaks/holes in the first place. Isn't there a more compatible plastic that could be used? Maybe something thicker with a bit of stretch to it?? Ugh!  This frustrates me.  There was evidence of leaks only by what looked like the bag may have swet a bit in the folded up drain areas, only obvious when the blue M9 leaked  was I made aware of these leaks mostly bcuz of wearing light coloured clothing, it had nothing to do with odor as...

1) my dogs never paid attention to the area (thanks I'm sure to M9) & I am daily on the floor playing & grooming them.

 2) I think the M9 took care of the odor part.

On having a broken bone in my right hand, I'm needing help from a licensed care aide to change my pouch. She commented the first time & right off the bat that the output doesn't have an odor compared to patients where she worked. She asked me why, and I gave total credit to the M9 !!  I use about 18 to 22 drops each time I use it, more then 24 gives the output a much stronger type smell, almost like high acidic bleach odor, acidic, like from puking but no *look* of obvious acid in the output. These findings took me well over 18 months of trying to figure out how to fix this darn little annoying leak problem.  I still want to try Duct Tape again and Gorilla Tape.  There was never any sign of output the colour of what was in the pouches, as I said it was more the blue of M9 on my clothing that caught my eye and the moisture in the folded up spout. The areas of tiny holes in the drain area were more annoying then anything especially on my light coloured outer clothing...lol... ugh!!!

Individual experiences may be different based on Ileostomy or Colostomy or Urostomy and of use of M9 was/is in place or not.

To Hollister... DO BETTER! WE are your life time customers. Not everyone changes or has need to change a pouch every three days. It can be very hard on the sensitive skin under wafers and the tapes used for a more secure attachment.  I do wish I could just print this off, have other wearers sign this and send it to Hollisters powers that be but I don't have the equipment required to do so. I can hope they have a spy amoung us though... lol!

Hey... if your curious, Google how many customers Hollister has & how much their worth is & how kany new customers a year.... 1.1 Billion a year isn't a bad income! I wonder how many wear an actual pouch... 🤔. . .

I was surprised when I opened a box of drainable pouches last week that the closure was very much improved. I've used a few of them now and really like them over the old "Lock and Roll" or whatever they called it. It also seems the pouch is quite a bit quieter than the old design, which sounded like a potato chip bag in your pants!

@dlkfiretruck no I use M9 for years. Since 2018. Then, when I got sick and couldn't work anymore, it's when I stopped using it. But I did buy a couple bottles here and there. When I can afford it. At the time I was using those meo coloplast.I was religiously using it every empty. So it was still smelling. You know some of these places it's the bag material too.If it's not odorproof.

Goatgearder Just posted after you did and said he got some new and improved Hollister, and that is much better. The lock and role on the end. So maybe if you get the new ones, they might work out better..

Can you describe how it's been changed? I always found the Hollister closure to be reliable, but perhaps not as easy to "lock" compared to closures that use Velcro only.

Generally speaking, I tend to be very skeptical of "new and improved" claims as it often does relate to cost-savings, "shrinkflation", or swapping ingredients so something that the user may not actually want.

But, it's nice to hear of an improvement that actually did improve the user experience!

@goatherder ... I'll be very pleased if this is an actual improvement! I almost got excited there! I guess its a wait & see. If anyone else notices these changes or any changes. please report them here too, I'd love to *see* the change. Would you mind posting a picture of the changes.  I recently got 4 boxes and theres no changes in them, but it was fun just to look & hope.

Thank you for telling us.  I appreciate it a lot.

Oh, care to share the pouch numbers??
