Hi ALL, a while back I posted on having some redness round my stoma due to having cut my wafer to big. my own fault as was in a hurry. ok well used to crusting etc but Eric had said his own experience of sore skin was best sort by Eakin rings. So I ordered a sample Eakins Slims 839005. I use convatec wafer and they are pretty stiff the same material from centre to edge. when putting it on my own mind tells me I should rub down the outer edge of the ring so the wafer maintains contact with it. or do I simply put it on and not touch. Was impressed by the way it healed your skin Eric cos yer right crusting while it works is a slow process.

You should definitely smoothen out or feather the edges. If you don't, you'll end up with an air pocket and the wafer will make poor contact with the skin.

Good luck!

I use these Eakin rings also-- they absorb sweat, etc. What worked best for me--yes me- I cut them in 1/2 -- roll it and press the seal around the wafer opening and make sure that it is sealed like a pie crust.. (softens like a pillow to the stoma) You can eye ball your size.. They can and do adjust anyways.. This I do as if I use the full seal ring-I get a larger rash under the seal--( like Eric said- air pocket) not anymore-  Also, I need just a little better convetx and the wafers just come in 2-3 sizes  mostly 2 sizes.  So I find that I am in between.. Nellie sticks out just over 1/2 inch and a bit side ways.. The sales people, Ostomcy nurses always say try with no seal ring-- Well, that is just a waste of a pouching system within an hour. and it hurts my Nellie.. I use a soft convetx. The deep convetx keeps the out put hanging around stoma (my Nellie) and pancaking happens  = leaks.  So this little extra convetx of my seal ring idea helps me-hope this helps someone else out there..  Been doing this for over 2 years........... Hi Folks, Just letting yes know how I have got on with the Eakin Rings, My main reason was healing sore skin round the stoma, yep I am seeing results and the skin is healing well. using them is pretty straight forward. Have changed another product in my supplies and that is my barrier wipe. the one I have used for all my years contains alcohol and felt with the broken skin it was not helping. now using the convatec silesse and an top of that am using the Niltac adhesive remover. Had never used a product of this kind before and where has this been all my life!! BRILL!! By now yes may have picked up on I have discovered the world of free samples!! so this evening in the post arrived barrier rings form Colophast and Convatec. just to see how well they mould I placed one of each on my tummy, have had them on for an hour and went to remove, Folks I could not have picked a spot with more hair i have used 2 of the wipes and have ONE removed am now starting on the other!! BRAINS WOULD BE DANGEROUS
