I am due to have Colostomy Reversal in January. I am trying to find info on those that have had it done. I have read about reversals from several years ago, but need more current stories. The surgery itself seems pretty straightforward with maybe some complications that happen. But from reading about the recoveries sounds pretty horrendous with some patients. I am in the midst of trying to make a decision and getting stressed about the surgery and recovery. I also have the 'common' Hernia that will be takened care of as well. If anyone can offer info on my concerns, would appreciate it! While it may not be common to find people who have had reversals in support groups, the reality is that most simply return to normal life without needing to be in a support group. Do you know if you'll be getting a j-pouch, or do you still have a rectum that will remain intact? If I recall correctly, you've only had some of your colon removed, but not all. Is that correct? There are complications to every surgery, and many are temporary while your body adjusts. The risk of these complications can vary depending on your age, general health, type of surgery, etc. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
