For about the past year or so only , I have been noticing that my ostomy bags are staining bright yellow after a few empties. I've never noticed it before that. Does anyone else get this and is it normal? I have a gastro appointment set but can't get in till May for other things as well.

That doesn't sound totally unusual, but since this never happened previously, you may be able to look for clues.

Which appliance are you using? If hollister, they did change the plastic not long ago, which could stain more easily.

Do you notice any change to the colour of your output? Bile tends to be greenish and could stain for sure.

Any other changes to diet that might attribute to this? Namely, any new spices, tomatoes, carrots, etc.?

Hi Chelly... my pouch stains according to what I've eat all the time. Eric suggested to look at vitamins too.  Staining happens all the time for me too.   My biggest offender is green beans & Tumeric capsules that I  take for inflamation along with B12 vitamins. Tomatoes canned or fresh do the same thing. Asparagus is bad for staining as well. Blueberries & fruits like plums. Juices like V8 juice & even orange juice.

Maybe this would be a good place to talk about foods & Blockages. If you're up to it, put what foods you like to eat here & I'll do my best to give you ideas on how to cook or prep them differently so you can still enjoy eating the way you prefer while avoiding nasty Blockages.

I've had a few nasty days & was still checking in here to read. But as things get more under control I'll be here to try & help.

@dlkfiretruck hi, right now I'm on fixed income and get delivery of pre-made foods. I do have to pick thjngs out of them at times. But if I could I do like bananas, yogurt, sandwiches.  I have to be careful with red sauce like in spaghetti as I get heartburn. Now I have seen the bag turn a reddish tinge from spaghetti before.

You got me thinking now...I'm wondering if they put vitamins in these pre made meals?

Hi Chelly - Once in awhile I have had very bright Kelly green staining, which I think must be interaction between the M9 drops and whatever I ate. Very concerning the first couple of times, but I seem to be ok.  Have you ever had output that was just white foam? Now that one caused me worry so I called to ask about it and was told that it was probably because I hadn’t eaten and my gastric juices just kept working. That only happened a couple of times.Hope you find an answer for your staining. LL

@llholiday hello, the M9 never seemed to stain my bag but I've had green before and told it was bile.

Yes I've gotten the foam too. It looks like suds.

@chelly Between the M9, bile, perhaps certain foods, I'd be surprised if your bag wasn't staining!

But everything you've been describing, including the "foamy output", is something I've experienced at one point or another (certain foods can produce this on-demand, if I wanted 🤣 ).

@chelly..  you were wondering if they put added Vitamins in the pre-made meals. I would say No. The vitamins should come from the foods alone, nothing added but what nature gives.

May I I ask what you are taking out of a pre-ready to cook meal? Is it something you have trouble digesting ?  I've often thought of doing the same by ordering 2 or 3 meals to see what they are like.  They do have good deals from what I've read .

**If they added vitamins, they would have to place it on your nutrition sheet if its included.

Red sauces give me heart burn too,  but I beat it into submission by drinking milk with a red sauced meal  & then eating yogurt afterwards & tummy swishing to mix it up! Lol, sounds rediculous but it does help.

@llholiday... when mixing paint colours or icing,  yellow & the blue M9 will make green...

@dlkfiretruck I have to pick out of the prepared meals are onions hard green or red pepper, hard vegetables, uncooked apple pieces and take skin off of the potatoes.
