Surgery coming up on the 7th. Not for the bowel obstructions but to revise the stoma. Kind of scared, but hopefully he will see what's going on and fix it. Update: due to having 2 bowel obstructions in one month my stoma revision surgery is temporarily put on hold. Doc wants me to wait for one month snd see him in office to see if I get another obstruction. If so I may have to be opened up again all the way which wili be a nightmare due to the mesh I have inside..says he'd have to slice through it and fix whatever then try to sew the mesh back together best he can which would leave a huge chance of developing another hernia. No I dont want this to happen. If no obstructions by the time I see him then we may go forward with the revision. @chelly ... So not fun! I think if they haven't figured out yet whether the Blockages are due to function or foods? Now would be a good time to try & help yourself with food changes. That said, it doesn't mean you have to stop eating foods you enjoy. I left you a message over on "bright yellow stained ostomy bag" about foods. Unfortunately we have to be our own detectives here & mostly do the brunt of figuring out what makes your blockages happen. Waiting a month and putting to practice changing up foods, you should be able to figure this out pretty quickly if the offending party is in the foods department.  Stay strong & don't loose heart. Linda @veganostomy yes, I'm actually relieved and happy with this decision for now anyhow. @chelly I'm sorry... I've been reading but not replying. My eyes have been so screwy the past 3 weeks. But right now are good. It never hurts to wait for surgery of any kind unless its an emergency. . I'm a bit like Tony. H. I've had so much done to me, it's like hands off please! I need time to regroup, heal, and even find my "brave" again. So... let's talk meals. I've been trying to be here the same time you are but that's not working out...lol! Do you eat the basics, meat/vegan options, veggies, potatoes & salads, rice & pasta I assume, home made soups ??? Do you prefer wraps on the run? Why don't you give a run- up of what you might eat in one or two days, say breakfast, lunch, dinner, salads & what you put in a wrap or salad how you enjoy them.  Then maybe your favorite meals too. This will help me give ideas for you, on how to prep them differently still allowing you to eat what you like and need in your diet... fruits like Oranges, apples... yogurts.. I love so many foods, but I can't afford to eat all I enjoy. Financially it's not possible. I do snack between those meals sometimes & especially before I sleep at night, or I wake up a lot & am hungry, too tired to make something & then I end up drinking too much water & again, in the w.r. when I'd rather be sleeping! But, what I eat is based on what my body can handle too. Chelly, I basically eat 2 very nutritious meals a day and I eat a Greek salad almost daily with one of those meals. No lettuce involved its too brutal & I've seen evidence of it in the pouch 2 weeks later. Though I will indulge in it sometimes but only with certain meals. I'm still learning on that one. For the Greek salad, I peel the cucumber and the red pepper and I'll peel Radishes or make tiny little if slits in the skin with a knife. I love tomatoes like crazy. I'll give them a few mins. dipped in boiled water & in a cool rinse, then skin & core & chop them. I do one or two at a time. In a sandwich, I'll cut the edges in 1/4" slits & this avoids long pieces of skin to digest. I'll layer the Greek salad & veggies like this... couscous or quinoa or barley or rice on the bottom. Then cukes, red peppers, feta cheese, Greek olives. ( My son buys a big jar at Costco for me.) I will also put a half a chicken breast per meal when I eat off the salad for 2 or 3 meals, but accompanied by a dinner, meat , spuds, veggies . Chicken or beef is sliced thin or a piece of fish on top or on the side & make a meal of it. I usually try to buy Avocado once a week to have with it as well. It's high in vitamins & smooth to digest. One does 2 meals, so I'll put in in a bowl & toss cubes with lemon juice or a vinegar to prevent browning. I've also tossed it with Salsa sauce & that's really good. Then I still have cubes, not mashed Avocado.  I make a dinner plate of the salad & split it between 2 or 3 meals. It's kind of picky work prepping veggies ahead of time, so a big salad saves prepping every day. Past day three, the cukes get rubbery & I don't enjoy that, I took Eric's advice a long time ago. To put my 'Fork Down" between bites and Chew Chew Chew!!! I chew until there is very little evidence of what the food was! Lol!  It's time consuming but I've avoided a blockage for a long time now bcuz of Eric's advice. Thank you again Eric. It's payed off. At this time, I've bought pre-made meals from the hospital. But I always add either stewed tomatoes or make a packet of gravey to help keep the spuds easier to digest. Tomatoes on potatoes is wonderful! If you haven't braved it , go ahead. & give it a try. I've also made a quick gravey with a can of stewed tomatoes & use the rest during the week. If it's not used by the end of the week, I'll toss what's left in a bowl of soup. But I most always add extra something on top of potatoes or rice or barley to help me digest the whole meal better. I've noticed some of my Grands will eat all of one thing on their dinner plate & move on to the next. I have to mix my bites up. One or two of veggies & the 1 or 2 of spuds & then the same of whatever protein & salad between those bites too.  I have ready a big glass of milk with each meal and water, I drink a big glass of water an hour before most meals if I remember. But I always drink lots with a meal. I admittingly will move my abdomen in such a way to swish foods in my stomach & thin them better again. I don't eat a lot of deserts. Having been type 2 diabetic 5 years ago, I added that cost into my grocery bill. If I really need or crave a sweet, I'll eat a granola bar if some kind but drink a big glass of something with it too. I also make a big quiche & separate it into containers, label & date, then freeze for when I need a quick easy snack Kate at night. I reheat on auto reheat, the veggies setting. I place a damp paper towel or... at the dollar store you can sometimes buy round or squares of parchment paper. I'll scrunch up one of those and place it to fit the over the quiche . Sides as well. I may need to zap it a time or two three depending on size. I have no recipes for the quiche but if your interested I can write out the egg to milk & cream ratio. The rest is just what I like in my quiche. I typically layer a well buttered bottom of my big casserole dish with Tater tots, then when bacon or if Italian sausage is on sale, I'll buy it, pre-cook it & have it ready to use in the freezer. I love onions & leeks so fine chopped & ready frozen as well. I'll also buy cheese on sale & pre-grate it & store it in a freezer zip lock type bag & place 1/2 a paper towel in the bag to absorbs moisture & ice. Then the day I'm ready to make a quiche, I'll just toss in what I have ready or feel like & bake it. I saw Mary Burg, a top chef winner & t.v. host make what she called a Dutch baby for breakfast one day & I add some of her ingredients in it as well. You always need to add salt to any food, even a little helps bring out better flavours of your food. You can add whatever flavors & herbs you enjoy to boost food flavors as well. I Love Asparagus! But its outrageously expensive here. I'm going to try & grow it this year & see what rewards it give. Seed catalogie companies will tell you what plants you can grow in pots if you have no access to a garden bed. They now sell asparagus that will be viable the same or second year you plants it verses 5 years. Asparagus is a veggie & like some spinach that keeps on giving thru the season sometimes .  Okay... this has been long read if you made it this far & never fell asleep! I hope it's help to some degree. If you have any questions about foods please just ask. I've been a restaurant trained Chef & Sous Chef in a Bible Camp, a Hospital kitchen, a College & 2 Restaurants before I got married. I used to think, what if I couldn't eat these amazing foods the boss had on the menu. Then I'd go home & come up with ways to make them so I could eat them & was always pleased with the results. That was before my first I'd 11 bowel surgeries. I hope you have a good day today!! Linda Chelly... I hope your okay & not back in the hospital!! I've been thinking about you a lot!! Linda
