Hi everyone. We have talked about a bunch of issues and i am wondering if anyone has an idea for my leak problem.  My surgery was done through my navel resulting in a deep hole with rigid sides. Stella is so close to tge scar that about 1/2 inch of my wafer goes down the hole and tries go stick to the rigid side. This is where I have leaks 99 out of 100 times.  I use Brava seal rings, I USE my hair dryer on low to activate the stickiness, i also uxe the Coloplast elastic wafer extenders and I have tried paste.  Still get a lot of leaks.  Any ideas anyone?

Hi Barbara,

That must be frustrating.

I'm not too worried about the edges not sticking down 100%, but does the scar or any skin folds end up near the center of the wafer? Because that's where the leaks would start.

Have you tried any stoma paste to fill in any gaps between your skin and wafer? The barrier rings generally don't fill gaps in as well as paste would.

Thanks Eric a couple of good ideas there. The scar tissue does end pretty close to the center of the wafer. I have not tried putting paste on it yet would I put the paste in a thin layer over the whole area what? After all my complaining it is really funny that I wore an appliance and pouch for five days here in the hospital and it included the time they were doing the clean out for the Scopes that I had. That is a first for me I've never had one last more than 2 days. Don't know what in the world I did but I'm going to have to think about it really hard. Finally had to change it just because the underside of the wafer became eroded by the real liquid output that I had.  Now i have had zero output since wednesday morning (it is now sunday) and still a bunch of pain.  Don't know why they have not considered a blockage yet.. I have eaten solid food for 2 days.

When you cut hole in wafer cut it off centered . You don't have to cut hole right in the middle of wafer cut more to one side so it moves entire  wafer over 1/4-1/2 inch or so. Add ring of paste as usual. Also maybe try the Hollister New image wafer do the same cut off centered and then the taped boarder is thinner and more playable to accommodate the dip into belly button . I use New Image taped wafers and love them .oreder samples .

Paste is normally applied around the cut out where your stoma goes, but it can also be used to simply fill up any gaps - do NOT apply it over the wafer as it's not meant to be an adhesive.

I have more tips in THIS article, but think of stoma paste as a caulking of sorts.

And Bubble's suggestion of cutting your wafer offset from the center can also be a handy tip to use - I've done it in the past with success.

I am definitely going to try this. If I can cut it a bit off center then it would move it up and not be on so much of the scar tissue. Thank you

Good luck! Let us know how it goes - don't be discouraged if it doesn't work perfectly the first few times.
