Good morning everyone, This weekend my hubby and I are going to visit our friends in Boise, ID where the 4 of us will be participating in our 4th annual “Ostomies are Lifesavers” ostomy awareness 5k walk/run. We did it in 2019. Then they were virtual in 2020 and 2021. Then we participated again in 2022 and 2023. Here we are from last year.  And funnily enough, among the four of us, we are wearing shirts from the 3 walks. I can’t wait to see what color the shirts are this year. -Liza Wow, that's wonderful! The weather looks beautiful there, too. Crazy enough, I have yet to do an ostomy awareness walk! Plenty of walks for Crohn's and Colitis Canada, but we don't have local ostomy walks anywhere near here. 😭 Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. There are only a couple places around the US that have them. I’m not sure why. The first year, Tom and I did them both in Boise and in Portland, OR because they were consecutive weekends and my family all wanted to take part in Portland. But they no longer do the Portland one. You can do them virtually but it wouldn’t be the same without the other ostomates and their supporters. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a Crohn’s walk. That would be good too. -Liza @squeakyandliza good for you, Liza! I remember you posting this photo from last year; hard to believe a year has flown by already. The older I get, the faster time flies.😕 Hope the weather is good for your walk and you all have a great time together.  Laurie Just a semicolon Liza& you too Squeaky, that's so awesome you're doing another walk! I was so proud of you on your first one you would have thought I was your GramdMomma!!!  I've never seen any such walks or support group things in my area. We do now have Ostomy Nurses but out of an an hour away though! 🏬 Enjoy your weekend & have great time visiting your friends & enjoy your special day! You gone through such a life saving surgery you should be proud of yourself! No blisters!! Tell us all about it after. Linda You can do them virtually but it wouldn’t be the same without the other ostomates and their supporters. Yes, I would much prefer the connection with other people, rather than it be purely about raising funds or social media awareness. The last few years, when I participate in the Crohn's and Colitis walks, I'll actually bring my (folding) bike, and ride beside people, asking questions about who they are there to support and their story. I can talk to dozens of people this way, and it's always a great experience. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Great photo and great event. Thank you for sharing. I will have to look for on for next year. cygo Here is the picture from the walk today!! It was another beautiful day and a fun weekend with our friends. -Liza
