I just found out that I have gallstones. My doctor thinks it may be the cause of my chronic diarrhea. Did not see that one coming. 😳 I have a colonoscopy coming up in July that will determine whether my colon is playing a part in this or not. Apparently, diarrhea is a symptom of gallstones, and common in women of a certain age, (ahem - like me). So now some things are starting to make sense. Even though I have believed that my loose output is the result of too much fibre intake, I have to admit there are times when it doesn’t seem to be connected to diet at all. And no amount of Imodium will stop it. Huh. The moral of this story is the importance of consulting with one’s family doctor, and then following through on all the diagnostics she orders. I’ll report back when I know more.

Hi Tigerlilly, A problem known is a problem solved. I agree how important a family doctor is! I owe my life to a doctor I had 29 years ago! She got me to the right hospital and surgeon, the rest is history.

Best wishes going forward 👍👍

I’m glad that you made a visit to your doctor. Gall bladder issues can have such a variety of symptoms.

When I had my gall bladder removed some years ago it was life-changing: I could hardly believe how great I felt.

@llholiday thank you so much for telling me that! I am hoping that this is the beginning of a solution to a longstanding issue - finally! Nice to hear that it worked out well for you.

Hi... This is a good finding so far. I was thinking about you tonight & came back to check on how your doing?  Is Surgery for the GB issue planned at all?   My sister had to have her gall bladder removed during covid.  It was done by  laparoscopy & She was sent home the same night.

She said it was a pretty easy surgery to recover from & she has'nt noticed anything shes needed to change food wise. she was back to herself about 3 weeks after but still respected the 6 week rule from the surgeon.

I was recently tested twice for gallbladder as well. Mine was all clear & so were the billeary tubes & liver. I'll admit with some meds I'm on I was pretty relived to know my liver esp. was doing well.

Have you had anymore tests done? We have'nt forgotten you here . Let us know when your up to it how your doing. Thinking of you!

Well, as of yesterday, I am devoid of gall. I finally had my gallbladder removed; I had to postpone the surgery due to a family medical emergency. But I am resting (somewhat) comfortably at home after a laparoscopic procedure. I intend to remain on a low fat diet for now, and gradually ease into a regular diet. Hopefully, I will be able to manage a regular diet at some point. The low fat diet has been an interesting journey. Apart from having my trousers almost falling off me now, I have had regular bowels for the 2 1/2 months. I have gone from 4 Imodium a day to none. I am curious to see if this continues once my diet includes some healthy fats. I’ll keep you posted.
