Having just visited a newby in the hospital for dehydration; it occurred to me to delve into the matter a bit . Been there myself and didn't like it one bit. also read about Marcie needing to get a fillup 3x a week and Barbara getting dried out in a most awesome way.

Basically, there is a need for some education on our part about DEHYDRATION. i am concerned because i have a gifted kidney transplant. I consulted with Eric and he said that i should put it in the lounge for general discussion.

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/what-the-color-of-your-urine-says-about-you-infographic/

while we are concerned normally  about poop, awareness of the other effluents makes a difference.

If I may be so bold, if you can't remember the last time you tinkled, drink a bucket of water.

Hospitals are soooo expensive.

p.s. if you have difficulty going to clevelandclinic.org just google it.

Hi Z, cant find it on the lounge..  As dehydration is an after affect of MANY ostomy's 95 % of ostomy's get dehydrated badly even with help- now that summer is coming (I think) This is an important issue. I can get it so bad and FAST I go into electrolietes -sp- seizures. Which are not nice, and can be harmful as you shake, fall, everything goes black, and can take a good  month -2 month's to come out of this fast dehydration which you are hospitalized for many weeks.  I have had 2  kidney failures already, when this happens.  IT comes on fast and hard!!  My only suggestion is when you feel dehydrated, move slowly, getting out of bed to fast as this always tend to put me into a total black out seizure. IT is a hard come back even if u feel o.k. after, and don't go to the E.R.  DO NOT SHOCK your body of fast fluids !! Your body is already in shock.. Bed rest and fluids every 30-60 minutes. I have done this Re: Dr. but if the next day I am still on the shaky side, then assistance is required.  I just had a small seizure today-- so time will tell. What it tells me is that I am in trouble.. Infusion tomorrow.. see how I do. ????????

Hey Z  . That is an enlightening chart you have there . I like that especially the purple one ! My last few years of work were working out in the middle of the desert (year round with very high temps) on solar plants . Saw many workers leave the job do to dehydration some very severe . They would always make sure we were drinking and one thing they would always stress to us was WATCH THE COLOR OF YOUR URINE and yes make sure that you are going tinkle . Like Marcie says drinking a bunch all at once is not the answer . DRINK TODAY FOR TOMORROW cause once you get dehydrated its to late .

I can't take credit for the work of Cleveland Clinic.  Just for bringing it to our attention. In fact, Eric has a lot of credit . I saw a similar thing in an offbeat site and Eric directed me to the Cleveland Clinic site saying that it was more creditable. Thank you ,Eric.

Hi guys! It's 3:45 am and I cannot sleep. I tried to put this in the Lounge ,  but my phone won't cooperate.

I have been busy with good things that took up my attention.  One of my granddaughters was Bas Mitzvah and we went to Brooklyn to join the fun. Also, we had another grandson . To quote my father, " my family is my revenge on the Nazis ." May we continue to grow and prosper.

I am continuing to deliver food to the hospital. This is besides my study schedule. I have a full day.

Now that the summer is closer, (Baltimore had its first 90 degree farenheit day ) , I just wanted to remind you all about taking care of your selves and to drink enough.

Anyway, it's good catching up with you.  I have to start my day soon.

Z

aw shucks , i didn't do anything.

I have been reading the last few weeks worth of posts, and i see that you and john and the rest of the crew have the ostomy world in hand. when things slow down here , i will get back on board. my studies have taken me to a higher effort requirement.
