I don't currently use a 'ring' product, instead using the Brava Paste Strips by Coloplast. Sometimes I think a ring may be better but I only use the paste strip for the bottom 1/3 since that is the area that is... lower than the rest of the area. I've not had a problem with leaks so far. Once in a great while I'll get pancaking (I am a colostomate with thick output). I have not had an issue with my flange not sticking, though it does not stick well right at stoma, but I do not use any sort of adhesive remover either. Wear time is 3-5 days, and when I remove them the come off cleanly.

Because of the odd shape/irregular outline it is difficult to cut my appliance to fit. I would like a product that can fill the gaps and not melt away. That's the biggest problem for me with the Brava Paste Strips. They deteriorate way too fast for me... and everything itches!

Two thoughts :

  1. Have you considered using a moldable wafer? I've reviewed one by Hollister and one by ConvaTec. These would eliminate the need for rings or paste strip IF they work for you.
  2. I'm wondering if those new Brava Protective Rings could be used like the strip paste. They could have more resistance to erosion, but you'd have to test that theory.

1)  I had considered the moldable wafers but was worried erosion would be an issue, especially since stuff seems to not stick well right next to the stoma. I should probably try it...

2)  I just ordered a sample of this ring. I like that it comes in a 'thin' version. when I used the strip, I flatten it as much as possible. We'll see how it goes!

Kae, yeah... it's hit and miss with moldable wafers. The Hollister one eroded VERY QUICKLY (like less than a day) and while the ConvaTec was better, it was a mess to remove... I have reviews on both.

But, I will say that people who do have success with moldable wafers sing their praises every chance they get ;) Sample, sample, sample!

Good luck!
