Does anyone know if hollister appliance without tape would be ok for me if I'm allergic to their tape?  The sensura mio just isn't my fave.  The filter doesn't last 24 hours an i  can't seem to get a good seal around my stoma.  The Hollister pouches fit well and adhered well.

Oh Raine, what a predicament you are in. I too have tape allergies. I get a heavy red itchy welty then oozy  rash within about 8 min. of having certain medical tapes and bandages on me. I am constantly on guard in the Lab, hospital and in O.R. before I am asleep...then I just trust them. I felt sick when they showed me the bag I would be wearing after surgery.   Oddly enough, I can wear that paper tape and tagaderm.  Anything else and I am hooped.  I recently, out of curiosity tried the Coloplast bags...that was a failure.  I had itchy welts for days afterwards.  I'm Certainly sticking to Hollister...pun unintended.  Are you able to have tagaderm on your skin after they put in an intravenous line? The clear stretchy cover over your IV. Is your allergy at the anaphylacktic range? I have  been putting down a thicker layer of skin barrier wipe solution beneath and beyond by an inch of the tape that must be on my skin, and it seems to be working.  I always have a reddish ring under and around the tape of my Hollister bag, I had no idea that a tapeless one could be made. For the time being, I use my eczema cream around the edge of the skin and tape to help stop the immense dryness from happening after irritation has begun. I never thought there was a tapeless pouch and I am going to look into it.  Can you share what you know or find out please. I would be very interested. I truly hope you can find  reasonable replacement for your skin.

I'd try the Hollister tape-less wafers. I had a reaction to their wafers with the tape border as well,  the tape-less ones have worked well for me.

I use Hollister. I am allergic to all adhesives . I now use a Safe-N-Simple barrier sheet. ( you cut hole out .) This goes on my skin First and wafer goes on top. There is zero allergy and allows me to keep using my awesome Hollister set up. I use the  4 inch square barrier sheet that fits perfectly under my 4 inch wafer . Sheets come in different sizes.

be well , Bubbles

Yes, probably.

But have you confirmed with a nurse that you do have an allergy to the tape? One way to test is to cut a bit of the tape and apply it to another part of your body and see if you have the same reaction. If not, it's not an allergy.

Good luck!

Thanks for your re plies and suggestions.   I actually cut the tape off a hollister pouch and put coloplast strips around the edge.  It's holding up so far!

Eric, yes the ostomy nurse confirmed it was an allergy.  It cleared right up once I switched to coloplast.

Raine...what did your skin do beneath the tapes.  Is there a difference between and allergy and a sensitivity? Anyone.....?

Same with my skin, and then  the itch settles in like crazy.  Sometimes just big welts that feel like "they are annoyed with me. Thank you for saying for saying what your skin does, somehow it helps to know I am not alone in that particular battle. Some nurses have made me feel like I do not know what am I am saying when I tell them how I react to tapes. I do not know anyone with this type of allergy either...till now:). I am not the TEXT book patient when it comes to symptoms. I have learned so much here and it has helped me tremendously. Again...thank you too Eric!
