Hey guys,

I am wanting to be free in life to live adventurously--even doing contact sports like krav maga or jujitsu. Looking for a guard that would work and the two that seem best for this use case seem to be StomaShield with a solid veview on VO, and StomaPlex with some youtube videos indicating it has worked for folks doing BJJ, but no reviews on VO or elsewhere as far as I can tell.

Wondering opinion on both of these for the use scenario and also comparison. I also sent StomaPlex a message asking them to work with VO to generate a review for their product.

Extremely grateful for this website over the years although I have never posted here. :)

I have not used the StomaPlex, personally, so I can't compare.

However, it appears to work very similar to the StomaShield that I've used. One advantage with the StomaPlex is perhaps the material options, but even plastic guards are going to be extremely durable for most normal impact.

For something like martial arts, I would consider the height of the guard, since "tall" guards could interfere with bending at the waist.

Realistically, for impact protection, the guard really only needs to protect the stoma. As long as it stays in place, pretty much any guard will work well.

Larger guards work better in cases where you need to tuck the appliance under your pants, or if you want to put a belt or harness across the stoma.

Good luck with your martial arts practice (or is it studies?) 😉

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

Thanks, Eric. :)

From your experience of StomaShield, do you think it would have a non-obstructing profile that would allow for dynamic movement like in martial arts?
