I am a beginner on using Urostomy Pouch. I don't how to determine extended wear wafer and regular wear. At the beginning, I used the Hollister bag ( http://www.hollister.com/en/products/Ostomy-Care-Products/One-Piece-Pouching-Systems/Urostomy-Pouches/Premier-One_Piece-Urostomy-Pouch-_-Convex-Flextend-Barrier-Tape ). But my skin was irritation from adhesives. So I've changed to use this: https://www.megro.de/en/draina-s-mini-drainagebeutel-100-ml-steril-30-stck.html But it is leaked in 10 hours so I have to change 2-3 bags per day :(. That was an inconvenience for me. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you so much! Welcome to the forums! I'm not familiar with the "Drania" bag, and they don't sell them here in Canada, but I would suggest trying another product from one of the major brands (Coloplast, ConvaTec, B. Braun) if the Hollister didn't work for you. You'll want an extended wear product for a urostomy, but the important part now is to find a balance between skin health and leak prevention. Do you have access to other products? Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I am a beginner on using Urostomy Pouch. I don't how to determine extended wear wafer and regular wear. But I love the two piece system I use so I found a solution that might help you also. I use a Safe N Simple skin barrier sheet. I put this on first directly to skin then I stick the wafer on to that . No more itching or redness. They come in different sizes. I use the 4x4 that fits perfectly under my wafer. You can buy bigger sheets and custom fit anyway you like. For example by cutting strips that you fit under where any adhesive parts of your wafer are. So it's use is very flexible. Give it a try so you can keep using a system you like more. Be well, Bubbles Hey Kakallatt Welcome to the group ! I don't know much about Urostomies but you are in a good place here with everybody and Eric . I have an Ileostomy and I use the Hollister products and like you at first I had a problem with irritation for months . The I was told to use Marathon its a skin protectant and it did the trick for me . Its a little pricey but it worked very well . I only had to use it till the irritation cleared up now I use Nystop powder that was prescribed by my surgeon and everything is going well . I am into my 16th month with my Ileostomy . Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis I had issues with Hollister regular wear wafers, the ones with the tape border. I found that the adhesive on the tape was lighting up my skin. I switched to the extended wear wafers and have had much less trouble. I also just recently started using barrier wipes from Convatec, which have been great. UC since 2002, subtotal colectomy Dec. 2016, proctolectomy Nov. 2018. I had issues with Hollister regular wear wafers, the ones with the tape border. I found that the adhesive on the tape was lighting up my skin. I switched to the extended wear wafers and have had much less trouble. I also just recently started using barrier wipes from Convatec, which have been great. Not sure if you have access to them or not, but Hollister offers SIX types of flat wafers! I personally find that regular wear products and products without the tape border (so just a hydrocolloid wafer) tend to peel a lot more than those with tape borders - but I'm not sensitive to any of the adhesives. Anecdotally, I hear more people having trouble with Hollister wafers than other brands, but keep in mind that more people are likely wearing Hollister products, so I don't know what the rates of skin sensitivity are as a percentage compared with other brands. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Hollister I don't care much for.. Kinda of heavy and my skin say "no" The tapes really are not of any help either.. Use up more skin than I prefer. And the peeling? Hurts.. for me any ways.. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Thank you so much, everybody. I decided to try ConvaTec. But I am wondering should I use 1-piece or 2-pieces? Could you give me some pieces of advice? Hi everybody. Thank you for your advice. I eventually choose a new product for me, but I want to make sure it is extended wear and suitable for Urostomy. Have you ever used this Convatec product: https://www.healthproductsforyou.com/p-convatec-activelife-one-piece-urostomy-pouch-with-foldup-tap-and-stomahesive-cut-to-fit-skin-barrier.html I was told it is good for skin by using Stomahesive® technology skin barriers. Look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you so much! Kat, that looks comfortable, yes I did go into your information.. I found if using the SPRAY sting free barrier is NOT that great.. so, don't waste your money on this..If u use to much you lost the barrier of your pouch.. GONE !!! The safe n' simple wipes to clean if need is best.. Or just a clean wash cloth is best and let BOTH of these dry well. Best to you my friend!!! M. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. I tried one piece bags, I liked the very low profile. I might be tempted to have some on hand for periods when I'm more physically active/ dancing. I did not like the difficulty with cutting the place for my stoma out. Worried I'd get the bag. Hard to maneuver on the largest size, I can only imagine with smaller cutting surfaces it would get harder. I do know they make pre-cut ones, maybe now that Oscar has settled I'll try those. I did not like that if the bag got messed up I had to change the whole thing. Intact skin is a delicate treasure... I find being generous w my adhesive remover is a good thing. I clean the area after using the remover. I also only use skin protectant if my skin is irritated. I seem to get a better adhesion without it. Crohn's Colitis, Ilieostomy, Proctocolectomy November 2017 Felicity, Nellie is an odd round shape. I get the pre-cut of one inch (25 mm) then I take the seal and make and shape it press it. The pre cut Is pretty close.. Works well for me.. IF u want to try 2 I can send u some.. :-) Marcie... 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Hello, and welcome, I too am a urostomate, I have had great success with Coloplast products extended wear 6-7 days per one piece pouch! Hi everybody. Thank you for your advice. Look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you so much! If you have the option, go for the Durahesive version of that appliance as Durahesive is better suited for liquid output. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. But the Durahesive is only available for pre-cut, isn't it? As you said on this topic: https://www.veganostomy.ca/guide-to-ostomy-wafers/. I have just undergone a surgery 1 month ago, so my stoma has still changed size. Is cut-to-fit best for me right now? YEs, don't get the pre-cut yet.. From what I have seen is ore-cut is different order number, nd the regular wafers come in u-cut it and flat.. got to know your catalog. AND ASK QUESTIONS !! WHere do u live? M. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Durahesive should be available in all styles. Cut-to-fit is ideal unless your stoma remains a consistent size for some time. It's not worth the hassle to buy cut-to-fit and end up with something too small or big because your stoma has changed size. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
