Hi Folks, I know many of you use a convex system. I received an email from Eakin about a new product in their range. It’s called the eakin dot, I don’t use a convex myself but this may be of interest to those that do.

Thanks John and Tony.  Looks like a great option.  However when I went to the website they said no samples for US customers.  Any ideas or out of luck if in the US?

You guys can get Eakin rings and the are part of convatec, it’s surprising and a shame not to have access.

That is indeed a shame. They clearly don't want US business very badly. If any one tries these, it'd be great if you could report back. @veganostomy perhaps they would be willing to hook you up with some samples as the owner of a site that throws such a wide loop. Maybe if they get enough business in the US they'll be willing to start giving samples or perhaps set up a reseller here.

interesting, I am curious how you guys know the company does not want to supply US, can you point to a source on this?  maybe it has to do with production numbers.  its a new product, complete full scale production may not be wise until they get an idea on demand.    i wouldn't jump to conclusions so fast.  could be lots of factors, lets see some facts.

You're absolutely right, Dogtalkerer. I retract what I wrote earlier.

I won't give names or sources, but I've personally spoken with so many people in the supply chain (manufacturers, distributors, dealers, etc.) who have said that markets are quite specific and some products will never make it to some countries based on the insurance/healthcare system there.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if a company decides to keep products out of the US because of how the insurance/healthcare system works. Countries that offer "free" (or super low-cost) supplies tend to have more options.

Since convexity already increases the cost of a product, it's even harder to bring it into a place like the US.

Of course, there could be other reasons, too - it's not always about insurance - but it often is.

This is definitely an option and I've received and/or reviewed products that I can't even buy in Canada, but since nearly half my audience is based in the US, it's generally better if I try products available around here.

That's not to say that I won't eventually try the Eakin Dot products, but it's not going to be a priority if only a smaller segment of my audience will have access. I get so many emails and messages about where to buy products that I'd simply be causing more work for myself :)
