I just added a new video that compares 1-pc and 2-pc appliances, but I'm curious to know what you use and why.

I use 2pc systems about 95% of the time - I find them to be easier to put on, convenient when wearing my bag sideways because they can rotate, and I like the bit of protection it offers my stoma (because of the plastic flange).

I have never actually used a 1-pc but couldn't imagine not being able to size and cut the appliance with a bag in the way. I love my 2-pc since between changes I can pop the bag off to shower, and since I have a handheld shower head I can spray the base plate, cleaning it quite nicely. I am sort of a nut about it being clean. Every time I empty, I rinse the bag and clean around my stoma. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have the access a 2-pc gives me!

I'm a 2 piece fan as well...  but I carry a one piece with my "out of the house" bag in case of an emergency, mainly to save money on a mishap and it's quick to do. When I get home and ready to get back to the 2 piece that works best for me, I can. I do carry a full 'repair' kit for my 2 piece as well, but it's just nice to know that I can just slap on a 1 piece if in an emergency and rushed for time and my surroundings are not the best setting for this event.

Thanks for sharing, guys!

I like the idea of having a one-piece in the emergency kit - it's super thin, inexpensive, and easy enough to pop on in an emergency.

Oh, as I said, I have never used a 1-pc but as an emergency item, I can see its usefulness! Well, if it's pre-cut, that is. Might be worth investing in at some point.

I actually keep a moldable wafer in my emergency kit so I don't have to worry about cutting or presized anything. Unfortunately, it's a moldable product that doesn't have a long wear time for me, but it works.

I'm sure you can get a one piece  moldable appliance too!

I pre-cut everything that goes into my emergency kit, my Stoma has not changed since it healed, and I have a fairly flat stomach...  and being a Colostomate(?). Even my favorite ring is already (by accident) the same size as my Stoma..  and the price difference from the 1 piece and the 2 piece I use is quite allot.

2 piece for me.  I experience pancaking often and sometimes so bad it will push under the wafer. I like being able to remove my bag to clean away any difficult output.  I also recently had a bag start to leak at a seam (not my usual hollister just a sample I was trying).  I didn't have time to change the whole appliance so it was nice to just pop on a new bag.

two piece coloplast for me , and a one piece is perfect for an emergency .

the two piece is much easier to keep clean , i flush it clean after I empty and find that cleans around the stoma as well .

I wonder what the one piece fans  have to say about their appliance :)

I would imagine that if you aren't able to apply the wafer on properly (common when using a 1pc), then you'll be more prone to leaks! I think some people are just lucky :p

1 piece all the way here. I am partially paralyzed on my left side, mostly arm and lower leg from a brain tumor removal 26 years ago. I find it much easier placing a Coloplast Sensura Mio One piece closed pouch or Sensura Mio One piece wide outlet Drainable. I have a Transverse Colostomy with output ranging from semi formed to quite hard when I don't drink enough. I am very lucky to have had almost no leakage problems. My husband cuts my barriers and he has it down to an exact opening which is a blessing. When I try I totally mess things up.  Have had my colostomy since 11/2016 so I am pretty new at all of this. Have learned so much fro this site and am thrilled to have the forums now.

I have used this site since I've been a Colostomate in 07/2016, and it has saved me so much time, misery, and grief....  the education I have found here has given me confidence in being an Ostomate.  I hate to think where I would have been without Eric's info, reviews, and direction in helping myself!!   The forums are a great addition and obvious progression of this awesome site.

Thanks to all for sharing your stories, your findings, trialing times, your efforts  that have brought you to where you are today, it has helped me in the acceptance of whom I've become... the tips that you have found in finding "what works best" for you, is so interesting to read, as it further encourages me to keep trying different tricks to get those little tricks into my regiment.

Thanks to all....  thanks to Eric!

I am an advocate of the two piece Coloplast Sensura mio, I feel so secure with the appliance. Like Tony I rinse my bag with with water after each emptying to keep it clean. I also like being able to remove the bag and clean around the stoma, especially if I am having a skin problem and need to add Brava powder for healing the skin.

i recently had a leak when out of town and the emergency appliance I had as backup was an appliance I hadn't used previously, I put it on and immediately felt insecure and phoned around to pharmacies to find my appliance but all they had was the one piece by Coloplast. I bought the box and used one I,immediately put one on when I returned to my hotel. I must admit it lasted for five days and I have put two not one in my purse for emergencies but I prefer the two piece appliance overall. This experience taught me to have my appliance numbers on me at all times and to carry more than one back up appliance with me.

I'm 2 1/2 years in with a permanent illeostomy, and have always been in a one piece. I can't imagine having all that extra plastic attached to my belly! I have found the one piece easy to cut to size and easy to apply. I use a moldable barrier ring around the stoma, and then the bag -- with it's hydrocolloid base -- over that. (I use one with no tape borders and it stays adhered just fine, with less skin irritation.)

I had a lot of peri-stomal skin problems during my first months with the ostomy and it took a while to find a product that didn't cause contact dermatitis. Finally was introduced to the ForLife Stomocur bags (from Germany) which i have been in ever since. Unfortunately the were discontinued by the only US distributor (that i've found) who takes insurance. You can get them still for full-retail online, but the cost is prohibitive. ... So i am watching my dwindling supply and looking for an alternative... Does anybody have experience with Marlen bags? That is my best hunch at this point. Other hypoallergenic lightweight, slim profile pouch suggestions welcome.

The US monopoly of the big ostomy supply companies is beyond frustrating. There are some great products out of the UK and Germany that US insurers won't cover (because US distributors won't carry). Salts has wafers with aloe and with manuka honey. Makes so much sense!  And the ForLife products (literally) saved my skin! If any US ostomates have found insurance-covered distributors for Salts or ForLife (or other more innovative products) please let me know! Thanks!

I'm a 2 piece guy myself, not liking the one pieces I've tried... but, like many things, we are all different in skin types, body shapes, etc.  I've been using the BBraun Flexima 3S for some time now and really like the way it works for me, with a Nu-Hope rings that turtle necks my Stoma nicely, I'm getting 10+ days out of them.     They are also new to the US, being French based company, and only two suppliers have them right now, PPS in Florida (whom I use) and McKesson, and they are covered by Medicare and most Insurance companies.. I imagine they will be in more suppliers hands soon, and I hear there is a one piece coming in the near future for the US market.   Just my findings.... glad you are happy with a 1 piece!!  What works for you is the important thing!
