No she is not an ostomy nurse but has a lot of knowledge and worked with ostomy patients many times over.  she even ordered my supplies and They came today, A good thing as I was down to one bag,  I have a rash and redness around my stoma and she ordered some powder to help heal it.   Thank   you  lord for sending me someone that understands.

That's so amazing! That tells me that she's very committed to her work! Not many regular nurses know more than the absolute basics when it comes to stoma care.

I'm so glad she's come into your life!

My WOCN recommended any powder that has micronazole nitrate 2%. This is an antifungal powder that's usually marketed for athletes foot. It works for my irritated skin. I dust it on until the skin is totally dry and then apply barrier film , eakin ring , wafer and bag. It took a week or two to heal. I continue to use it off and on  to keep the fungus from attacking my skin.

Hello, first time here been reading Eric's board awhile.  Decided to join the group my wife says get a hobby.  Had an ileostomy 2 years ago been through a few things nothing major. The only thing is I'm really self conscious about it.  After 2 years still trying to learn to live with the "Bob" Bill's ostomy bag.  All I can say to the newbies is it gets better so keep on keepinon

Oh man Bob I have wondered how long it would take for me to run upon some one with the name Bob and I would have to explain.  It was either "Bob or Bop" and that sounded like a cartoon.  So I settled on Bob. LOL

Welcome BillH23 & Robert.

About being self conscious. There will come a day ( REALLY) where you forget about it. That is yet another challenge! You may forget to empty or 'burp' it. So good and bad thing. I really don't think about it much except when tending to it or planning an upcoming change. I am comfortable with it now and since it saved my life, happy too.

I have had mine about two years now.( UC, Illiostomy)  I found this place last year when I was having leaks due to changes in my stoma.( it shrank and then retracted so its kind of flat on my body). Learned about convex wafers and its all good now.

Bag master's place has been a huge help...and also a great hobby! ( HA )

Somewhere on this site there is a funny thread about kamikaze or combat bag changes, Happens to everybody sooner or later. Like you said, keep and emergency kit with you (and sometimes all new clothing!). I was apprehensive the first time we traveled. I had a blow out in the rental car in Kauai... fortunately the B & B let me use the shower/bath area near the spa hours before we were supposed to be there. It does get easier.

It is great to be able to get more than five feet from the toilet now, huh? Looking back, I just wish I had had the surgery sooner.

Oh man I remember those days I call them the bad old days.  I think that is the reason I'm having a difficult time  adjusting always afraid of a blow out.
