Hi my name is Deborah. I live in north central Ohio.I have had my illiostomy since march 23 2017 (colon resection due to colorectal cancer). I did six weeks of chemo and radiation before my surgery and 18 more weeks of chemo after (finished aug 24 2017) I am truly grateful to be able to say that the colon cancer is GONE! I was to have my reversal surgery in October but during all the testing to get ready for that, they discovered that I have a rectovaginal fistula(an opening between my colon and my lady bits). I had surgery on Oct 20 2017 to repair that, along with a complete hysterectomy. The fistula repair did not work. My surgical team is now sending me to the Cleveland clinic to see their specialist in this area. Hopefully she can repair this thing and I can get my reversal and be done with this. I also have thyroid cancer but that surgery is on hold till my fistula has been addressed. I thought I was weird for naming my stoma , but I see here that I am not alone in that...her name is Gertie grumble guts by the way. I am glad to have found this forum and am looking forward to talking to all of you. God when you choose to leave mountains unmovable oh give me the strength to sing it is well with my soul Hi Deb. Welcome.. Been through much huh?  My husband is from Fostoria, Ohio and much family in Findlay, Ohio-been there many times.. Know it?????? The Cleveland Clinic is a wonderful place.. A few people from my support group from here in Ct, went there for their surgeries. Along with his family. They cant say enough of good about that place. Get well!! MAlsgal86...Welcome to you and Gertie grumble guts! Meet me...Linda and Rose...my stoma. Naming her heped me accept her a lot better. Now we are in love. I only changed names twice before. You have been thru the gammet and you still have further to go. Between all of us you will at least have a sounding board. A variety of health issues, and some with cancer experience also. I hope you have good support at home, and with friends. Bounce off any questions that you have here and also know that Eric is a great source of information, and products with amazing videos. I only recently came on the site as I have had Rose since 2009.  Never thought to seek support as I had been thru loosing my hubby to pancreatic cancer and a few years of critically ill. Just too tired to think. Not any more. Keep us up to date on how things are going for you, we all care. Linda Linda "Gertie grumble guts " is a wonderful name. Mine is NED (no evidence of disease ). Pleased to meet you. ;-) Deborah, What does MALSGAL86 mean? Sounds like an interesting story. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I kind of found this place by accident, just searching around the intetweb. As for the meaning of "malsgal86" it isn't very interesting...my hubby's name is Mal and we were married in 1986. And yes Marcie I know where Fostoria is and our youngest daughter just graduated from the University of Findlay with a BS in nuclear medicine technology. God when you choose to leave mountains unmovable oh give me the strength to sing it is well with my soul Hi Deborah Welcome to the group ! I am 68. Good luck on your healings.. Thyroid cancer huh? How did they find that?? I had a trek done when I died, and lots of scar tissue etc. all around now.. just wondering if u don't mind.. M. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Not at all Marcie. They found a nodule on my thyroid during a routine exam...fast forward to an ultrasound then biopsyand it was cancer. My colon cancer was discovered during the pre surgery testing for my thyroid removal...hemoglobin had dropped to 6 and that started this journey. I live in a VERY small rural community in Huron county Ohio on a 600 acre grain farm. We are half way between Cleveland and Toledo east and west about 40 minutes south of sandusky...right smackdab in the middle of nowhere...Lol  God when you choose to leave mountains unmovable oh give me the strength to sing it is well with my soul Right smack in the middle of nowhere? That sounds like Ohio to me.. :-) I have driven through Huron county, and Sundusky lots of times.. Getting to someplace else.. and so on. Nice people. Lots of grain farming's and industry for that. Remember about 15-20 years ago, in Fostoria, Ohio-on a grain holding tank the virgin Mary was sighted? What a traffic jam that was!! Hot dog vendors, selling t-shirts etc.. I did not attend this sighting myself tho. I myself love my trees around me here in New England.. And get to the ocean and other states. But for now I am staying put... Got plans tho :-) Good luck with your cancer issues.. What r they doing about the thyroid cancer? Your poor body is going through much huh? Best. M. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Mals_______ I meet up with an old working friend at infusion. She went to give blood as she does yearly--Well, they would not take her as they did not like the blood out come, and told her to get to her Dr. She did and she had colon cancer. Go figure huh? From something so simple to something major.. Scary!!!!!!!!!! We all should count our blessing every 30 seconds.. She's doing well. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie..
