I had mentioned in my previous post about having one banana a day to keep output solid, but soft. It's working....however I seem to have constant good output. Should I cut back on my once a day bananas??

My old boss swore by eating a banana a day. It is a great source of potassium. I was doing it for a long time. I need to get back to it. They are good for so many ailments. If it’s working and not constipating you then why stop? You know, if I get diarrhea I will go straight to the store buying a banana or two.

@chelly My problem is that the 1 banana a day causes normal output non stop. There has been no break in between. I want to continue having the bananas, just wondering if it is too much.

@jillian maybe try every other day or a half banana a day if you want to eat them?

Hmm, that's a little odd.

  1. Are these very ripe bananas? Under ripe?
  2. As an experiment, have no bananas for a day(or two, or more) and then have them again, once per day. See if that changes anything.

Generally speaking, "what goes in, comes out", and for ostomates, it's very often linked to the bulkiness (volume) of the meal.

So, on its own, a single banana weighing around 120g, can only really cause about 120g of output.

Of course, the nuance here is that if a certain food causes your digestive system to lose more water than normal (laxative effect), then you'll have more output than what you've consumed.

Sorry for the rambling. I'd still do the experiment of going without the banana and then eating them again to see if you get that constant output.

Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.

Hi,

I eat 1-2 bananas daily.

I find how much I eat and how much water I drink are what impacts output quantity and consistency.
