Hello, i get a volcano like protrusion of wax inside my flange.  It doesn't matter if I use an Eakin seal or not, it will still bunch up around my stoma.  It causes the stoma to get squeezed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you so much in advance.

Hi sharonlyn, Welcome to the forum. I think from what you are saying it’s the ring which is swelling up. The way the ring works is to absorb liquid that would otherwise get on the skin. Or are you getting a break down of the wafer? Have you measured the stoma to get a good fit. Leaving a little gap will get filled and also do you need the barrier ring.

Welcome to the forums, @sharonlyn

John is correct. You are either seeing the barrier ring or wafer (or both) swell up, which is quite normal and actually helps to seal up any gaps between the wafer and your stoma.

It should not expand enough to interfere with your stoma's ability to work. As John suggests, don't cut your wafer too tight or it may become problematic.

What wafer are you using? Have you tried any other barrier rings? Eakin does swell and "melt", but there are others that do not.

Hi John,

yes i measure the stoma.  I think maybe I am not leaving enough room from your comment.  I thought it had to be tight to the stoma.  I will try leaing a little space.

Thank you

Hello There

I am using the Natura by ConvaTec and Eakin Chesive SLIMS also ConvaTec.

I am going to try leaving a little more space around my stoma.  My volcano is probably the moisture like you said swelling the flange.

Thanks, next change I will post how it goes.

Thank you, Sharonlyn

The important thing to note is that as long as it's not causing problems, there's nothing to worry about. Make the hole of your wafer just a touch bigger than you normally do and see if that helps give your stoma more space.

Good luck!

@veganostom

I left more of a space around my stoma and it is still happening. I am not getting any leaks but it is crazy. I was going to attach a picture but could not figure out if I  could do that.

The volcano come up over part of my stoma and not just a little.

Thanks for you advice and knowledge
