I finally got a sample of the hollister adapt rings the regular ones and really not much difference than the cera rings. Im allergic to eakin and Brava.  Guess for now I stick with the cera rings.

Are you judging them based on look/feel or have you used them? I find that some barrier rings look similar, but have a different formulation, so they behave differently.

But due to your allergies, I would be cautious with anything new anyway.

@chelly ... i was just thinking... would it work for *allergy*  reasons to just test a partial section of the ring first so your whole skin area is not affected by an allergic reaction ??  Or have you already tested it out?

@dlkfiretruck i've already tested it out. None of the hollister rings bothering my skin at all. The eakin , the brava and anything else breaks me out of an itchy rash. Yes, I did.The testing already way back.

I came back to say that i am now testing something different to see if the seals act better and dont break down as quickly.

I noramly give the end of my ostomy bag a good wipe with a water wipe both the outside and the inside of the tail end.  but those water wipes still do contain another ingredient which can be slippery or moisturizing. I do rinse them real good under water before using but maybe residue still on there?

I got yo thinking that linda has said she uses toilet paper only to wipe the end after rinsing. She has also said her pouches last quite a good time.

So im going to use only toilet paper all of today to wipe the tail end inside and outside instead of the wipes to see if the seals last longer and dont break down.

Ill be back with the result later. Im determined to get to the bottem of it.

@chelly Good luck!

I would assume that traditional "wet wipes" would contain extra moisturizers and ingredients which could impact the adhesive of the wafer.

@veganostomy things were really not too much different without the wet. Wipes the barriers were still melting, so i'm assuming it's from the rinsing, there must be some chemicals in the water or something that's doing it. I went back to the wipes because the end was thinking pretty bad.

This would be a very interesting idea to test!

If you decide to rinse again, try with distilled water to see if that makes any difference.

@jattzl

My thoughts exactly, I have no data to back it up but I think rinsing helps with how long I go between changes.  For me wiping out the opening with out water is a royal pain and I avoid not using water.  I carry smallish water bottle with me at all times to fill and use while out and have a hand nozzle bidet set up at home.

@veganostomy i don't think I can do distilled because they only sell it and gallon jugs here, but I can try spring water or a purified water. And i've thought about buying a big batch of it and just leaving it at room temperature instead of putting it in the fridge to use only for this to see how that goes. I'll let you know when I do that. I first have to get to the store to get the water bottlrs.

Yeah, if you think about all the chemicals that they put in our water in different cities, put different amounts because of the different bacterias. And such so that could have an effect on our adhesive.

@cygo i definitely agree about trying to wipe it out without water and not rinsing. Not to mention it's gonna smell bad.

If your water is heavily chlorinated, letting it sit out should cause the chlorine to evaporate away (overnight or a few days).

If chlorine is the culprit, this should make a difference.

Minerals in the water, I would assume, shouldn't impact wear time much. But yeah, any water other than tap could be used to test with.
