Hi All, Over these past months I have been having trouble with my tummy bloating, Why or what is causing it we can,t seem to get to the bottom of (no pun intended) I have blamed different foods and have kept an eye on my diet but no answers. A surgeon I seen a few weeks back suggested having an MRI scan so had it done yesterday. Never had this done before and its easy enough, only had to fast for 6 hours before and when I arrived was given one and a half litres of a clear drink which helps to show up my small bowel, after 45 mins I was asked to lie on a trolley and had 2 large flexible pads put over me. the trolley is then moved inside a tube and with just the top of my head sticking out the process starts. during the test I was asked to breath and hold a number of times. I was given head phones so I could hear the instruction when to do as its quite noisey. half way through I was taken back out and had a tube fitted to my right arm so a dye could also be used. it lasts 40mins and afterwards was free to go home. BUT yes their is always a but the drink I was given has a laxative effect. Oh boy it does!!!!!!!! I had a cup of tea and waited for an hour and had to go 4 times. then thought ok will head home. On the way home had to stop and visit 3 service stations :-) I was still going at bed time. So will get the results next week and hopefully will have an answer :-)

Hi, Sorry you have been having trouble. You are right  that the MRI is not so bad considering how much can be learned by this non invasive technique..and no radiation.

It is, like you said, incredibly noisy! Earphones are essential. I have a quite a few of them and the ones where you have to drink the 'stuff' were the worst.

I hope this helps to figure it out and that you soon feel better.

John...I really hope they can figure out what the issue is for you. For me it is bread almost every time. But, I also deal with several partial and pseudo blockages. They cause there own kind of bloating and pain.  It is frustrating when this kind of thing happens and you think you figure it out and then wam it hits again. MRI's re the best for finding out the problem. Keep being tough! It is worth it.

Good luck with the results, John. I had an MRI not too long ago but was fortunate that I didn't have to do anything special for prep.

Hello John,

I have not been on the internet much this week, so I just saw today about your problem. I  will be praying that it will be easily fixed.

I had an MRI just a couple of weeks before my operation. I am claustrophobic, but the experience was not so bad as it the tube was big and I went in feet first. The technicians also made it easier on me as well.

Take care and God bless!

Hi All, I have been back to see the surgeon who sent me for the scan, the results have come back clear no obvious signs of a problem with the small bowel. So the question still is whats causing this bloating. The surgeon said that it  could be adhesions and they may have not shown up at the time of the scan! these could be causing the small bowel to go into spasm. I now being put on a tablet for six weeks to see if it helps and after that am to go for a CAT scan to show up my other organs. The good news out of it is that their was no sign of crohns :-)

Hi John,

I am glad to hear that you do not have Crohns! My youngest brother had Crohn's, and it did not bode well for him. Hopefully, the pill will help with any discomfort you are now feeling.

John...that is really great news for you! I understand the frustration of not having a diagnoses or when something can not be done.  I hope things go well on the medication and that your troubles end there. TWENTY FOUR YEARS! That is pretty darn wonderful! Keep us in the loop!

John, what a relief!! At least u don't have to battel another Horror!!!! For the gas- have you  tried -----Charcoal tablets ? or Capsules? I use them once in awhile for gas as the Gattex injections offer much gas to us taking this. (we the people on this Gattex) Also, I always noticed to much SALTS is a issue with gas.. and the beer had to stop for me also-- :-(   but there r days my friend...……. :-)

So Check out these and see if they help you-- Truly-hate the gas.. Not comfortable.. Maybe try different little excerise's to move it around? That helps me.  along with sleeping on my sides..

Best to you. m.

P.S. my Dr. told me about the charcoal tablets.. Seemed to  help -  out put was black tho.. But my sleeping on the sides helped to move the gas around.. only took 5-10minutes on each side when needed.

FYI: Activated Charcoal doesn't help with gas, unfortunately.  https://www.veganostomy.ca/community/general-ostomy/anyone-using-activated-charcoal-for-gas/

I used it as well with no benefits, but that was expected in light of the evidence against it.

Hi All, I said I was prescribed a table which I received yesterday. Have to take two three times a day for six weeks. Since taking haven't had any bloating although that may be coincidence! as I just got them. The tablet is called Spasmonal, the clue is in the name lol.
