Anyone have itchiness around the anal area that was sewed up? Has the wound fully healed, Rick? You had the surgery a while (over a year ago), right? Has the itching just started, or has it gone on for a while? I wasn't sewn shut, and my wound took *years* to fully heal, but it was itchy at times. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I believe I have fully healed, no staining or leaking. If I use a moisturizer after shower around the area there is no itching…but if I forget to useI sure can feel the difference. Does anyone still see their surgeon for follow up years later? Are we pretty much on our own at this point, because my primary care doc is no expert in my situation. If I use a moisturizer after shower around the area there is no itching…but if I forget to useI sure can feel the difference. That's an interesting observation. Is it possible that the area is drier than you expect? Dryness anywhere tends to cause me to itch. Does anyone still see their surgeon for follow-up years later? Unless there's a complication that needs to be discussed, I don't think most people have follow-ups years after the surgery. But that's not to say that a follow-up isn't warranted if you are still having issues or questions that aren't being address. It might be easier to speak with a WOCN before a doctor or surgeon. If they feel that a chat with the surgeon is warranted, then you can go through the process of booking a follow-up (likely with a referral through your family doctor). I had a proctocolectomy a few years ago and I am sewn up at the anal area. I do believe I get issues in the summer. It could be that your sweating in thot area? You can put a cream called calmoseptine or any kind of but balm or zinc ointment. I think I even used a little Vaseline before.
another thing that comes to mind is when I went for a follow up they told me I had a dip there and to make sure I clean that area very well. They had me go buy a hand held shower sprayer head so that I can be sure to get clean there.
im thinking your sweating there so it’s itching. Between some kind of butt paste and buying a hand held shower head to wash and rinse well that you will be ok.
If you feel you need confirmation I would let your surgeon take a look just to be sure.
