I got the scare of my life last night. It appeared I was passing dark red blood in my Ostomy bag. Here after removing the pouch checking things out it came out again onto the paper towel leaving what looked like blood output. After an hour of freaking out and trying to figure should I go to the ER , I remembered that I drank a red poweraid zero. I thought to myself that just had to be it. I was so tired that I told myself go to bed and sleep and see what happens in the morning. Sure enough in the morning nothing but brown normal poop in the pouch. Glad it was nothing! It's certainly unnerving to see red output. I'm a fan of beets, and have been known to occasionally gorge on pickled beets from time to time. You have to mentally prepare yourself for what's to come when you eat anything RED! 🤣 🤣 Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. I’ve had blood in my bag and it is definitely scary! So far, every time it has been a result of my beaten up skin around the stoma bleeding into the bag. I just have not been able to get my skin under control, no matter what I do. A couple times the bleeding has breached the wafer, which looks like a stool leak. Either way, it leads to an ostomy change. 😊 -Liza @squeakyandliza that’s terrible! Have you consulted with a stoma nurse? Have you tried a 4x4 square barrier sheet under the bag? Gosh, I hope you can find a way to get that under control.
