Winners for the WEGO Health Awards for 2017 have been announced over the past several days, and I’m so happy to see IBD and Ostomy advocates being represented in so many categories this year!
There were over 2500 nominations and 80 finalists in 16 different categories, but several advocates (including myself) were among those who advocate for IBD and Ostomy patients.
In the end, we had great results!
I ended up taking a win for Best in Show: Blog, which I’m extremely excited about.
Erin of InsideOut Ostomy Life won the Rookie of the Year category!
And Luke Escombe, a talented musician, and IBD/Ostomy advocate won the Hilarious Patient Leader award (which I’m totally not surprised about!)
Honorable mentions
While not every IBD and Ostomy advocate took home a prize, several more ended up as finalists, and they should be just as proud as they do great work.

Thank you to everyone who nominated and endorsed one of these fine patient leaders. The amount of work that goes into our advocacy effort is often unnoticed, so I’m glad that there’s a place where advocates can have some recognition of their efforts.
