Sunday, June 5th, 2016. Another Gutsy Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis has passed. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to go again this year!
The Gutsy Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is one of the main funding sources allocated to IBD research by the organization. Last year, over $3,000,000 was raised, and we hope to do even better this year!
Sunday June 7th, 2015 was the 20th Annual GUTSY Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and I had the pleasure of doing the walk again this year.
When I was having home care after my ostomy surgery, I remember telling one of the nurses how lucky I feel to have all the support and supplies available to me. She told me a story about what some ostomates in India and other underdeveloped countries have to go through when they get a stoma.
Boy what a day! Sunday June 8, 2014 marked the 19th annual Gutsy Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. It was the first year I’ve been able to attend since my diagnosis in 2008 and the excitement really did make up for the lost time. We surpassed our local goal of $70,000 this year, and team VeganOstomy made up over $1500 of that.
It’s May 19, 2014 (A.K.A: World IBD Day), but I don’t feel that it’s a special day to me. Since getting my ostomy back in August 2013, I’ve been an active member of the IBD and ostomy community, and I’ve finally had the energy to help answer questions, raise awareness or simply be there for someone else with IBD or an ostomy who’s looking to open up about their challenges. But the thing is, EVERY DAY is an IBD Day for me. How can it not be? Every joint pain, every worry about next flare, every peek to see how full my ostomy pouch is a constant reminder that IBD is still a passenger in my vehicle of life.
I want to thank everyone who has donated to help sponsor team VeganOstomy for this year’s GUTSY Walk so far. … Read more
This year I have a chance to fight back against Crohn’s and to show that I still have plenty of fight left in me. Along with my daughter, Jasmine, I’ll be participating in this year’s Gutsy Walk, presented by Crohn’s and Colitis Canada on June 8th, 2014.
