I am a nurse and often feel helpless when providing education to patients. I often recommend your site for real information and education. Often items I receive are based on the contract someone has with their providers. I often utilize this site for ideas to better care from patients every day. Are you an ostomcy/wounds nurse? Home nurse? Most nurses in this field have to wear a pouching system with 1 cup of water in it for a day or so, to understand what we are talking about.. Have u tried this? It will help your profession to understand as words cant say what we are going through.. ITs fun-- go for it... :-) Knowledge is always the key- I know that at coloplast in the usa, the people that answer our questions do this also with their products. One guy told me that he was amazed having to shave that area, how when the hairs grew back, they pushed the wafer right off!! the hairs were so strong.. I feel for the men.. But the understanding of us helped him much to help me.. Wonderful........ YEs, this is a great blog-wish I had it 3 years ago instead of walking around in the dark.. Hard first year and them some.. Best. M. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Hi and welcome . As a nurse Can you please go to the thread called " 1 month little one with Ileostomy " . We have a new member that could use any advice you can give . Thank you . Welcome to the forums and thank you for the referrals. Knowing that you are obligated to talk about products you get through contracts, I appreciate that you're exploring other options by using this site. Please feel free to join into any of the threads you like! Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate. Very nice Bubbles- 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. I am in homecare. I have been wound certified for almost 10 years. Recently became ostomy. Now considering adding continence certified. I often must utilize what supplies patients come home with. Which does not always work after the first few weeks. Coming home they had maybe 1 change over at the hospital and many times never independent. Every patient is a new experience. To say " the one size fits all" mentally often makes my role a million times more difficult. Information available is often product based, outdated and at time scary. I will continue to research and keep as updated as I can. Thank You for allowing me to be a part of the group. I am in homecare. I have been wound certified for almost 10 years. Every body is different and every mind. We all have different life experiences and resources at hand. I liked my last visiting Nurse because she allowed my need to be very independent for my first change at home. We arranged a day and time she would be in the area with another client and I would call if I needed an assist or if I managed to do it by myself at a set time when she would be finished with her other client. Crohn's Colitis, Ilieostomy, Proctocolectomy November 2017 Dear home nurse, First off, thank you for becoming one!! This is an odd opotunity area of expertise I must admit.. I think if u keep up with our complaints and blockages, and the mental confinments/home/scared/shock /family's etc. that we share will be most helpful to you-because that is how we feel. For me I was so confused and in shock-I didn't know that I was sick, Just went down with pain -- woke up 3 months alter- = 2 month comma, bleeding internaly(sp), bile back up, viral pneumonia, "the trek" and U.C. strangulation 3 times of colon. I took a few dry runs to heaven (which is so lovely) Went to nursing home with staples and this huge stupid bag, to learn how to walk. Major acceptance all around.. I did thankfully have a wounds nurse come to my home after 2 1/2 months in the nursing home-thank god for her!! -the nursing home nurses were of no help-I learned how to change my pouching system by myself after watching them.. Lost 35 pounds at that time, and now a loss of 55 pounds and also have infusion of liquids through my power port 3x/weekly =12-14 pound of fluids-weekly. Sevrerly dehydrated.. doing that for 3 years.. Why didn't the Dr.'s see this? I was in for 2 kidney failures the first year, then 1 the second year then I became malnurturesed (sp-big time) -(pulled myself out of that last year-because I was afraid to eat because of all the no-no's that can lead to blockages) ) and no impression that I needed the I.V. system.. Why didn't the Dr.'s see that I was dehydrated? So, u can see that I was scared, NOT IMPRESSED when I came home and really wanted to go back to heaven again-it is so much nicer-the only thing for me within my mind was that!! The only trouble I had was staying there (heaven I thought) and kept on asking myself why?? Why tease me like this lord? But I tackled so much-gave myself 2 categories-one learn to walk, 2 figure out thus stupid pouching system.. then the 3rd catorgary was trying to accept what my body went through and what my husband went thourgh-heck! I was diying and died.. Dr. Told him that while I was so sick and in this comma for so long that I may not be the same.. (can u possibly think/feel what he went though?)But I am back and happy that I found this blog.. (I was looking up dehydration-ilestomcy--and I saw this last month-I cant tell u how much it has turned me around.. We are a family with understandings and love for each other and respect.. Again, thank you for becoming a home wounds nurse.. The ostomcy is of ones healings of not only minds, but skin care-which some times for some-that is a long progress- I am sure of your chosen field, you have much love and time to us that are in need of you.. We look forward to a nurse that has "not the text book style" But the proper informations to talk with through it all- We don't even know the right questions at first.. Just plain shock and scared.. Then again I have met some ostomates at my support group-that are gone back to work after 6 weeks.. Personally, I cant figure that one out.. But I guess they were not so sick as the rest of us and they are much younger-that has something to with it.. Yes, I miss my old life, I was and STILL within mind very busy person-but I have to tell myself to slow down) I am 68 now, and I do not like the pay backs that I receive when I go over board.. But, I have new life.......now------- Help others, and make mine work.. Thanks. Marcie. excuse the typo-s... :-) 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Welcome T4Mis.. thanks for joining the forum. We could use more input and hopefully you will learn new things about living with ostomies. Onset of severe Ulcerative Colitus Oct.2012. On October 1st 2016 I retired after 12 years working at Whitworth Community Presbyterian pe for the first nine years I was the director of communications did a lot of graphic design and a lot of fun and let me use my imagination a lot coming up with ways to communicate things. For the last three years that I was there I was the personal assistant to the three pastors. That was a very busy job and three against one and they can keep me jumping but the Silver Lining was that I was the only one in the congregation who could tell the pastor where to go. It was a good job I looked forward to getting up in the morning to go to work and I still find myself missing it a lot Severe rheumatoid arthritis, spondoloarthropy, polymyalgia rhumatica, type 1 diabetic, IBS and finally, emergency diverticulitis surgery, colon removed Stella born Jan. 27, 2017. 6 bouts of c-diff, failed fecal transplant.
