Between March 13-16th, 2016 I was able to take my first flight in over 20 years. It was not only my first flight in decades, but it was my first time traveling with an ostomy and as a vegan.
In this post, I’ll be detailing my experience, as well as explain why I was even in South Africa!
Here is the presentation I gave at the B. Braun breakfast symposium during the WCET conference on March 15, 2016.
I spoke in front of over 150 people (mostly stoma nurses!) about the various phases I went through from diagnosis to recovery. It was so awesome to be up there, and the feedback I’ve received has been so positive.
Another year is has passed, and what a year it’s been!
It still amazes me that so much can get done in so little time, and 2015 was no exception! Much of the hard work that went into VeganOstomy in 2014 has started to pay off, and this year has a lot to show for the efforts.
I’ll be honest, I have no idea where the last year went, but it’s been two years since my ileostomy surgery on August 21st, 2013. Two years since I willingly gave up my diseased colon, and traded it for an ostomy bag – it was the best decision at the time, and I have zero regrets to this day.
Sunday June 7th, 2015 was the 20th Annual GUTSY Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and I had the pleasure of doing the walk again this year.
It’s been 14 months since my last blood test update on the site, and I thought I’d share my latest test with you guys.
When I was interviewed for the IBD Round Table, I made the comparison between having Crohn’s Disease and living as a ghost. It didn’t dawn on me just how accurate that description was until I began to think more about it.
Diet can be a very complex subject when it comes to living with a digestive disease. People who have an ostomy can also find that eating certain foods simply don’t work for them. I’ve written about ways in which we can substitute certain foods HERE, but in this post I’ll be explaining a bit more about how I tend to eat.
Wow, has a year gone by already?? This year’s GUTSY Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is right around the corner, and I’m grateful to be able to take part this year!
