The prospect of surgery can be a highly stressful and scary thing, but it helps to be equipped with knowledge so you aren’t worrying too much about minor things.
When I learned that an ostomy was in my future, I spent most of my time learning about how it might impact my life, what limitations it might force on me and how others were coping with it. But there are still some things that I wish I knew before having my surgery.

Sunday June 7th, 2015 was the 20th Annual GUTSY Walk for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, and I had the pleasure of doing the walk again this year.

My daughter invited me (read: begged me) to go to Canada’s Wonderland with her because a friend wasn’t able to go. Let me say that I haven’t been to Wonderland in maybe…. 20 years, which means that I’ve never been on any of the large rides that she loves to go on.
If you live in a country that has long, cold winters, warmer weather is probably something you look forward to experiencing for at least a few months during the summer.

When you’re a new ostomate, the inevitable questions about showering tend to come up: Can I get my appliance wet? Should I remove my appliance? Will water hurt my stoma? Fortunately, these questions are pretty easy to answer, but there are certain considerations to keep in mind.
Diet can be a very complex subject when it comes to living with a digestive disease. People who have an ostomy can also find that eating certain foods simply don’t work for them. I’ve written about ways in which we can substitute certain foods HERE, but in this post I’ll be explaining a bit more about how I tend to eat.
