My stoma (sorry, haven't thought up a name (that I can repeat) yet) will be one year old as of January 19th. I am still trying to adapt to this life change; it certainly presents its own set of challenges. I don't leave the house without my "emergency kit" with a complete change and all the accessories that goes along with it. I did manage season camping this year with my travel trailer which I leave up in Vermont. I would love to also do some tent camping this coming season, but I haven't figured my way around that yet. I joined American Youth Hostel and should be able to locate a hostel in some of the areas I want to visit. I know of three on Cape Cod, one of my favorite places. I'm going to attend my first ostomy meeting in Springfield, MA in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it and being able to talk with others and share experiences. Happy holidays to all, Nancy B. Hi Nancy, It certainly presents new challenges, but whats that saying "Necessity is the mother of invention" Meeting and talking with others will help answers questions and build confidence. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi Nancy-- You will get with things in your own way and timing.. I am 3 years.. and still adjusting.. The best ease is that I go out with other ostomys. We just sorta understand each other and the time it takes in the bathroom along with the fact we both know the search of where the bathroom is during our lunches.. :-) Major help-- I am 15-20 minutes (depending on traffic Rt. 91 south) from Springfield Mass. in Ct. We have a great support group in West Hartford, Ct. which is 20,minutes from me (with traffic) every month. It is known one of the best groups and many people from miles around (even 2-3 hour drive) come.. to try to copy us and get a group on the shore line together. Even R.I. -- like ours. Maybe you would like to join us when the weather gets better? Easy drive........ You can be my guest.. Happy New Year.. Marcie.. 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Yes, I was aware of your group and the fact that it is one of the best. I just don't like driving through Hartford to get to West Hartford, Since I live in Enfield, it's much closer for me. I will try to make it down for at least a couple of meetings once the weather is better. Best wishes, Nancy B. Oh my god, I grew up in Enfield.... That is where I get my infusions 3 x a week. at the cancer center Rt. 190.... just past the mall mess area.. going towards Johnson Memorial Hospital (which I frequent much also) going towards Somers. I grew up in Green manorville, near Somers, ct. line...when it was a new neighborhood.. 1957... I now live in East Granby ct. exit 40 off of Rt. 91..(air port) I take the backway to the support group-when the weather gets better I will take you when there is a good meeting.. If your interested. ??? Not pushing.. :-) I don't go much in the cold weather tho.. I don't blame you not having to drive through Hartford and getting on Rt. 84....East or west-.That is the worse designed traffic construction in the U.S.A. !! Made it to the big map sections for our country years ago--and remains the same and even worse now.. Got to know where your going and even with that? You end up taking the next exit and try to get back on again.. :-( Kinda gets under my skin at times.. ******see private message on your member link now******** 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. Hey theirs a result if all goes to plan, Why does the film "Thelma and Louise" keep coming to mind! only kidding ladies :-D ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Hi Ellie and Happy Birthday to Cleo ! New kitchen will be exciting but don't tell my wife . Good luck on your Doc visit and yes hopefully you are still dancing with NED ! Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis Hey, I like your policy. Mine I didn't even use since being over 62, it cut the small amount in half and chopped off a few days and didn't count my rehab facility. It just wasn't worth it. Strangely enough, every ten years I get a check for $2000 if I haven't had any claims. If I did file a claim, it would have cancelled this out and I would have gotten only about $300 for my hospital and rehab stay from New Years Day 2017 to March 25, 2017, my discharge date. Congratulations on choosing a good policy! My stoma's 1st birthday just passed. Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Was home from the hospital Friday the 16th, for the rocky taper off of the dreaded steroids. UC since 2002, subtotal colectomy Dec. 2016, proctolectomy Nov. 2018. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!! To: _______________? Your on your way of major improvements my friend!! 2014 - 3 strangulations of colon, Ulcerative colitis, removal of colon, illiostomcy named woooh Nellie.. My stoma's 1st birthday just passed. Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Was home from the hospital Friday the 16th, for the rocky taper off of the dreaded steroids. Being on here with all the help I have received from all of you has really helped me and Norman get along . Thank you everybody Proctectomy , Ileostomy , Ulcerative Colitis Wot about ye Robert, Happy Birthday to Stormin Norman. Yer both doin great :-) ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns August 8th was my 2 year stomaversary. Even though I'm female, I named mine Henry LOL! It was just a random name I pulled from thin air. Henry is way more behaved now, but sadly today, he is being tempermental and has me bedridden in pain, starving with a heating pad and homemade chicken broth. Hi Song, Hope you feel better soon and Henry behaves himself! SO sorry you are feeling bad today. Onset of severe Ulcerative Colitus Oct.2012. Subtotal colectomy with illiostomy July 2015; Peristomal hernia repair ( Sugarbaker, mesh, laparoscopic) May 2017. Thank you for the kind words Dona, much appreciated! I am feeling a little better pain wise (partial obstruction), but still experiencing horribly painful moments of my stoma contracting and expanding and pelvic cramping. Sadly, as anyone with Crohn's Disease knows, pain is something we learn to live with. I'm very tired, weak and hungry, so I'm just riding it out and listening to my body by staying in bed resting and keeping hydrated, with a ton of e-books to read :) Hi again, Have you had this happen before? I just wondered if a doctor had discussed this with you. I had UC so I don't know all that much about Crohn's ( except they couldn't figure out what I had for quite awhile). So sorry about the pain. Thats hard. Good to keep hydrated too. Its a real challenge to drink enough fluids even when you are feeling well. And yes! Thanks to e books, I always had something to read when i couldn't leave the house. I love my kindle. Onset of severe Ulcerative Colitus Oct.2012. Subtotal colectomy with illiostomy July 2015; Peristomal hernia repair ( Sugarbaker, mesh, laparoscopic) May 2017. Pumbaa's stomaversary is November 11, 2016. I named my stoma Pumbaa after the warthog in Disney's The Lion King, because he's famous for farting. :-D Donna Ileostomy 11/11/2016 due to colon cancer Mine was Sept., '86, so 32 years. I was 23, had been married one year. I'm going to look up the date and start celebrating it every year! 32 years! That's amazing! Congrats. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
