I complained a lot when I had a colostomy. The location of the original Stella (the Stoma) was right dead  enter on my waistline making it difficult to wear pants or anything with a waistband. Now after my 6th bout of c-diff and nearly dying from it I am a newly minted ileostomate. Surgery was July 30th.  Now my pouch is on my right side about 4 inches above my waist. The bottom of the pouch extends below my tops. Not a pretty sight. So I am looking for new ways to dress to cover it.  Seeking ideas from anyone. Thanks

Severe rheumatoid arthritis, spondoloarthropy, polymyalgia rhumatica, type 1 diabetic, IBS and finally, emergency diverticulitis surgery, colon removed Stella born Jan. 27, 2017. 6 bouts of c-diff, failed fecal transplant. Complete colonectomy and ileostomy July 30, 2018. ENOUGH!!

Gez. Barb.  Why did they out this 4 inches above your waste?  That is your rib cage area.. How do they expect anyone and you change the pouch way u there?????? Rather dull minded of your Dr.  I am one LUCKY lady for sure !!  Nellie is located about  1/1/2 -2 inches below my belly button - right side. Perfect fitting position.. Most people at my support group has this location.  Some can wear normal jeans.. (which I am looking into-getting braver) .. :-) I will  think for you.. Good luck!! House dress/coat? I am mostly in them myself when at home. Big dress?  You can just get one straight SIMPLE dress- different pattern's-dress it up with a nice hair do- jewelry-- Make up--

As I always say-- YOU (the person) MAKES the outfit!! AND don't for get your smile  that is a must!! The perfect touch!!

Helo Barbara,

First, I hope you are feeling better and that there have been no further signs of C-Diff. What a nightmare!

About clothes. Although my stoma is below my waist, I think you might be able to wear pants and skirts with the fold over style of waistband. You can customize these very well as to where you want it to be on your body , so that your bag can go underneath, but not be too tight for it to work.

( so the 'stuff' can still flow down into the bag).

You can find both woven pants and skirts with the knit fold over waists but more commonly knit versions. Hope you find a good solution.

Try Zappos.com.

Free shipping and free returns.  With VERY fast shipping .(Owned by Amazon)

I have had very good luck finding both cloths I like and shoes ( I hate shoes) from Zappos.

The free shipping ( both ways) is a wonderful feature..and things arrive very fast).

I found these joggers ( above link) by searching for 'fold over waistband'.

But keep trying other search words and read people's reviews too. Good luck. Getting comfortable is very important.

Barbara...you will find something that works for you in your clothing. When I had my stoma, I had to change almost all my clothing style. Do not be hard on your self about these things.  I wear a higher rise pants because of my stoma being high on the right. I also wear a maternity style tops and love that I can hide the pouch under it. Measure from your crotch to above your stoma bag to find pants that fits in rise. I would also suggest you see  someone who does alterations and ask what they would suggest. Often, dry cleaners will have a name of a dressmaker or someone who does alterations. I wear an elastic waste pants and loose tops. I changed my nylons from pantyhose to elastic tops at the thighs also. A slightly more expensive brand makes the difference in how they stay on you. I find them very comfy. So much more then I ever did pantyhose. You will find something that works for you. Be adventuress.

Hi Barbara

My stoma is above my waist line also but not quite as high as yours.  I have had such trouble with pants since my ileostomy.  I have given away about 40 pairs of jeans and pants.  It is really hard to find clothes.  I don't wear dresses much but if I do I wear a bodysuit to keep the bag close without restriction and to stop it flapping about.  And the only pants I can wear now are maternity even though I don't need the height on the front panel, they are better than normal waisted pants.  I have been caught out a couple of times with high waisted pants but they never work.  If your stoma is high, maybe you can get away with normal waisted pants and then a maternity band over the bag.  I wear this to bed and when I feel I need a bit more support.  The best maternity jeans and joggers I have found have been from H&M.  You have a lot more choice in the US than us in Australia.
