Hi Vicki! That's a good question. Have you given your gastroenterologist a call  to ask him/her if this is the crohns doing its thing? Also, if you can read Erics entry about his story and how he decided to set up this site, I think he addresses that information in there. Crohns is a rotten disease and can move about at will without permission, nasty stuff all around. Sometimes it can take a couple of days for everyone to catch up here but it does happen. You will get answers. In the mean time because you are questioning something that needs a diagnoses I would suggest you call your doctor or even your stoma nurse to let them know you are questioning this. It never hurts to make a call and ask. Knowledge is power,  especially when used right.

Sorry Vicki, I forgot to address your swelling. It took mine just over a year to settle down. It's a cranky thing. Can come and go. Have you had your normal output? Has it slowed down and are you drinking lots of fluids?

Linda is right. The issue you raise is too medically sensitive for you to get an answer specific to your physiology that you can safely rely on. Anything like that should ultimately come from your doctor. Linda is also right that Crohn's in general can continue in affected portions of your digestive tract that remain and can still bother you in other ways even without gastrointestinal manifestations, such as rheumatoid-type symptoms. Your situation might be something along those lines, but you can only be certain by consulting with your own doctor, especially with regard to a course of action.

Thanks all I have my preop Friday soneill be asking many questions.  I just don’t understand why he used the rectum to close a wound.  I have had some issues with my medical providers including putting me 120 mg of pred which could have killed me prior to my surgery.  I am just a bit skeptical of hmo care

i also just want to be sure I don’t have a hernia.  I need to get back to work so if there is an issue I hope they can do all at once.

Perhaps you need a second opinion, you have that right, and I would make a list of questions, record the answers and ask another doctor the same ones. When my hubby had cancer, I re worded voices only on our oncologist aors  always asking permission   bit we he could at the time only do so on my camera. We later played it for our kids to hear for themselves what the doctor said. We also took their questions along to ask too.

Good luck at your preop, Vicki. I had a lot of little pains after surgery - and there are probably 1001 reasons why you'd have pain, ranging from perfectly normal to disease flare. But I would absolutely want you to ask your surgeon/stoma nurse/GP/or gastroenterologist about these concerns.
