We have so many folk here from around the World, and I am sure it would be interesting to each how we all speak. Plus their are so many stereotypes! in Ireland we don,t go round wishing each other "Top of the Morning te ya"LOL.

Yes Lad (John) Ha . We are spread out for sure it would be interesting to hear everybody . People tell me I have an accent like from mid west I don't hear it myself . But once on the job a Mexican friend of mine who I had a hard time understanding because of his strong accent told me he had a hard time understanding me because of my accent . We had a good laugh from it but still always had to say huh to each other . LOL .

Vots de matter,  ya neber saw a Yankee before.

Honeychile, I lived in Texas,  N.Y., N.J., Colorado, Kentucky and Maryland.  The most important communication skill that I acquired was to understand that it's not what comes out of your mouth that is important. What's important is what goes into their ears.

Trick is to talk real slow and think real fast.

Shalom Y'all!

I don't tend to think I've got much of an accent, but it would be a southern varient closely related to a Kentucky accent. Cincinnati, Ohio has a wonderful verbal tic, we use "Please" for excuse me, sorry, I did not catch that and some sarcastic things as well. It seems from the German "Bitte" which translates roughly to please. Sadly it is used less and less as I get older. A Coke/ Pepsi/ Carbonated sweet beverage can be a soda or a pop.

Also some Appalachian, my granny was from the hills:

Haint for haunt/ ghost.

A Granny Woman is typically well versed in herbs, midwifery and practical medicine. Someone got hurt and there is no Dr in reach, get the Granny Woman to come.

If you are a mean one you are said to be meaner than a striped snake. Said stripe-ed for some reason, I heard that a lot when I was being ornery.

Crick is a creek, a small stream. My granny talked about the girl who got swept away in the crick when the Preacher tried to baptise her.

I'll try to remember more.

I am impressed , Felicity,  with you. Even though you just got out of a difficult situation,  you're clear minded enough to write the letter that I just read.

I am glad to make your acquaintance.
