You may or may not like it, but it's worth trying.

I've done that before, and I didn't like how thick output flowed.

When I had filters, I did this often, just to keep stool off the filter. LOL

I am curious if a different shape of the pouches could give the best of both worlds. The pouch would be narrow at the top, but much wider at the bottom, while at the same time being shorter. That way, the bag would still be able to hold a decent volume, but would wear as if you're wearing a normal bag horizontally. Without the awkward emptying or filter situation. So it would look more like a triangle with a wide base. Rounded corners, so output doesn't get trapped. Maybe a slight tapering in the middle of the base for easier emptying, guess that would make it a bit more diamond shaped.

@veganostomy do you think that could work?

For the most part, a 2pc with a mechanical coupling (so the bag can be rotated at will), plus either NO FILTER or an Osto-EZ Vent positioned for horizontal wear, seems to be a good compromise for anyone who's looking to wear their appliance sideways.

Some may even find a 1pc to be even better.

To expand on this conversation, what changes would you like to see? Perhaps we can find solutions without waiting years for a company to make the next move =)
