The below are sort of guesses, since I had multiple issues going on after my ileostomy was reversed, culminating in a permanent colostomy.

I had an ileostomy reversed and for a time thereafter I was dealing with what appeared to be bile acid re-absorption problems. Your body adds bile at the top of your small intestine to help digestion and it is supposed to be re-absorbed at the bottom of your small intestine before the 'product' passes into your colon.

If these bile salts are not re-absorbed then they cause irritation and diarrhea instead of letting your colon do the job of absorbing water from the waste.

I found that if I took apple pectin supplements (known to absorb bile acids) that my stool output firmed up dramatically. Might help you.

While I had my colectomy, about thirty years, I was expelling what an ileostomy does. At home I always rinsed with water. If not my ass would burn out. Take a dump, wipe lightly, if at all, sit on the edge of the tub and flush the butt with water using the hand held shower head. The stuff coming out is loaded with digestive juices. It digests your butt and surrounding skin. Feel the burn. My job required a lot of travel. So I often had to sit on flimsy bathroom sinks in hotels to clean properly.

You can keep a bunch of separated paper towel sheets on you. Before going into a stall, moisten some at the sink. Do your business. Wipe with TP, then wipe with the wet paper towel pieces.

I never go anywhere without my baby wipes! I put a few in a small zip-lock bag and carry it in a pocket or my purse. I've depended on these for years, long before my ostomy, as my stool was always very loose and I was never able to get myself clean with just toilet paper. Now that I have an ileostomy, they come in even more handy as I find just cleaning the end of the pouch with toilet paper isn't very sanitary. They are also really great in case of the old "splash back". They have a light cleanser in them, so will get you much cleaner than toilet paper alone. I know they aren't great for the environment and you can't flush them, but they sure do make my life easier. I buy them in a large box with several packages, and just refill the plastic dispenser. I also usually have a small bag with some toilet paper for those public washrooms that either don't have any, or it's really cheap, thin stuff.

I do have a whole bunch of doggie bags since I'm without a dog at the moment. Sometimes it can be tricky to find a trash can in some restrooms though. It's always kind of embarrasing when I pick up after my guide when I'm out but can't find a trash can, so have to go in somewhere to ask if they have one, and the person offers to throw it away for me. Yuck!
