Hi all,

Someone sent me this link. Has anyone heard or this product?  Or even better yet, tried it?  I plan to try to get my hands on it to give it a try.

https://ostoform.com/howitworks/

I am really struggling again. I had 3 changes yesterday and have done 2 at work already, and have another breach, but my emergency bag only had 2 new bags in it, so I put brackets on in the hope of getting through the last hour and a half.

My first change was an all out leak. It is so lucky I had an extra pair of pants here.

I met with the ostomy nurse yesterday and she wanted me to use a soft convex until my tummy heals. I had a couple boxes of soft convex, but they are 1 piece. They are most definitely not working for me. I’m at 5 changes in 24 hours. Ugh.

Liza, I am not familiar with this product, but it looks promising. I wear a light convex flange, but my output is fairly solid, so I don’t have issues with leaking as much as I do with pancaking. When you mentioned Squeaky’s facelift, does that mean that your stoma is now more flush with the surrounding area? If that’s the case, then it would make sense to use a convex flange, starting with light convexity. I hope this works for you 🤞.

When I was leaking really bad regularly - I could go no longer than 8 hours before a change - I used stoma collars and deep convex and it worked wonders. Still use it.

Hi Laurie.

Squeaky was pretty recessed before so I was already using a deep convex wafer. It is a pretty rigid one so the ostomy nurse wanted me to use one that is more flexible, and I happened to have a couple of boxes on 1 piece soft convex from when I first started all this almost 4 years ago.

My stomach is still pretty swollen from surgery, but so far, Squeaky 2.0 is even more recessed. The big this was the doctor changed it from a loop ileostomy to an end ileostomy. It changed Squeaky’s shape, size, and orientation. I’m just holding on to hope that when everything heals, it is a positive change. 😊

By the way, I didn’t make it the last hour and a half. After an hour I started feeling poo on my leg and tummy, so I came home and showered and out one of my original appliances on. It may not be good for my healing, but I can’t keep going like I am, changing my bag every few hours.

Thanks Chris!  Is there a particular brand you use?  Do you think a stoma collar would work on a pretty flush stoma?

Thanks!

I haven't, but it looks pretty interesting. On the surface, it looks like any other barrier ring, but that "flow assist" feature could be a game-changer.

Reminds me of THESE, but integrated better as a barrier ring.

If you do end up trying them, please let us know how it goes. I'm sorry to hear that you're continuing to struggle with leaks :(

Doesn't that flow assist part just look like the bottom section of what a collar would do all the way around?  I don't know how it would work on a flush stoma - it might defeat the purpose and keep output 'in' and close to the stoma.  It also might work well tho once the output gets past the collar - you could probably trim the length of the collar to help as well. I have a gigantic stoma that protrudes an inch and is 55mm round.  Its just poorly placed and in a valley so I need deep convex.

I use Salts collars.  They are pricey and I buy boxes of 30, but I believe they come in a box of 5 if you wanted to try them. I'm sure a sample could be sent.

That’s a interesting looking device. The collar would work great on a protruding stoma, but for a recessed stoma it would be really interesting to see if it helps flow into the bag. Great job Liza let us know how it goes. Be great if It helps 👍

@chris What keeps the collar from sliding right off the stoma? Does it fit under the ring?

@llholiday I cut my wafer to size, then I take off the plastic exposing the adhesive of the wafer, then I feed the collar through the wafer hole so that the base of the collar sticks to the wafer.

THEN I use and eaken ring and place it directly to my skin around my stoma. Then I slide the wafer/collar combo on and apply pressure.  The collar ends up being held in place and sandwiched between the eakin ring and the wafer.

Does that make sense?

Eric .. How thin is the wafer to the stoma collar?? I find that the wafer of pouches are now cracking a good 1/2  to 3/4 inch by the 3rd or 4th day & am wondering if it might help prevent that a bit.

Liza .. thank you for posting that info! I feel like I missed some info on it so I'm going to have a look again.

Anyone in Canada here using the stoma collar?  If so may I ask who you get them from & how  much you pay for them & how many do you get in a box??

Just back from viewing & reading the info Liza posted.  The other night there was no video or pictures like what are there now. I think that would make a big difference for a lot of people.  I would hope it would work well laying down also.  Great find Liza!! How did you come across it??

Linda

I am sorry to hear of your problems, Liza. You certainly have had a rough go of it! Hopefully, using a light convex, plus the collar would put enough pressure on your stoma area that it would cause it to protrude a bit more. Let us know how it all works out!

God bless,

Stella 😊

Thinner than a barrier ring. Even thinner than a "thin" barrier ring 😂

I've used THIS company, but you need to make sure that the sizing is correct for your stoma.

You don't get many in a box, unfortunately. Like 5. ☹️

Not sure which sample you ordered Ostoform Seal or collar. Pancaking is my problem and the Ostoform Seal looks like a possible way to resolve it. I ordered a sample and will post my findings.

Thanks for the info.
