I have a question on exercise as to what kind of exercise you all might do for the mid section after surgery to get muscles back in shape ? Any suggestions ?

Hi Robert, After  surgery on the tummy those muscles are going to be slack. I have always heard of pilates as a gentle way of helping strengthen the core. I know my Sister-in-law has been going to a class after having a C-section and has had great results. Eric in a recent post said about Yoga. Any such exercise as you know clear with the medical folk.

Robert, most exercises that don't require full engagement of your abdominal muscles tend to be safe.

Coloplast gives some suggestions on this page :

Be sure to get cleared by your stoma nurse, and if possible  wear a hernia prevention belt.

You can find a lot of excercises in Convatec me+ program (available also on Youtube).

Link: https://meplus.convatec.com/articles/meplus-recovery-series-phase-1/

It is devided in 3 phases:

- Green phase (Foundation) - excersises intended after surgery (in hospital and when you come back from hospital). I have used them during my first month of recovery

- Blue phase (Making progress) - more advanced excersises. You switch on them after you get comfortable with excercises in green phase

- Purple phase (Getting fitter) - most advanced excercises.

Note that key is in making them right and slow and that you advance according your ability (so you don't injure yourself).

For me they are great way to stay in shape
