whats intersting is I had rectal cancer and was told if they could rebuild the rectal area, i'd wake with an ileostomy, if not a colostomy. I guess its possible that large intestine repairs could involve a colostomy but most I've heard of (reversals) start with an ileostomy, then a reversal about 6months later.

I've wondered if you have gotten an ileostomy mixed up with a colostomy? your comments sound more from an ileostomy person. so you have me confused, thus the direct questions. its not harsh to ask specific questions , to get the right informantion , so you can make proper suggestions.

most confusion i see here relates to using the word Ostomy only.

My go too for corn on the cob cravings (ileostomy & short gut syndrome), which I miss desperatly, Mmmm, that lucios chowing down on a nice golden buttered hot dripping sweet crunchy cob.... ugh, I'm sorry, I digress! I can eat creamed corn & to amp it up I add a bit of fresh ground nutmeg, S& P to taste & have it on top of mashed potatoes with extra butter. This always curbs those naughty taste buds still giving way to that corn on the cob deliciousness as well as cushioning any extra small fibres with the mashed spuds. I think the fruit cups are ideal as well!

I also get the fruit cup mandarin oranges as they are "peeled." I don't think I'll try an actual orange for awhile. For veggies there are also "fruit cup" size green beans and diced carrots. Can't do corn though. Like someone else said, I sure miss corn on the cob!

i too have issues if I eat too much melon, so treat myself on occasion and am very careful about seeds (though a few always sneak through). I haven’t been brave enough to try oranges though. But I had a little trouble with oranges even before my ileostomy.

It is an ongoing learning process. I miss corn on the cob most of all!!

I tend to buy the little fruit cups meant for lunches & the same with OJ. If I drink too much OJ it can clean me out pretty good but the portions in a drink box & fruit cup cover that orange craving & it makes sure I don't go over the limit I set for my crazy ileostomy.

As a kid growing up, I loved eating those icecream treats, Creamsicles, I rarely buy icecream now, but when I'm craving a creamsicle I put about 1/3 or less, of the glass I'll be drinking from with milk & mix the rest with orange juice!! Its pretty bang on for taste & will thicken or curdle a bit, but the other Grands & I all agree it makes it feel almost like a milkshake. Stir well. It sometimes needs a little more milk or OJ. But I've found this very satisfying when that craving hits!! Try it, you may be surprised!

My now 3 & 1/2 year old Grand-D loves the mix as well. She calls me by a very special name that she chose, "Munga". So when she wants that drink she always asks for a cup of Munga Juice!! Lol!
