4Winnie, I remember now that I took warm baths, too, which were very soothing to the wound (and in general!). Kept the would clean and dry, was very careful to gently pat it dry after the bath. It does take awhile. Colostomy 4/30/18. A sense of humor after my own heart. Love Wallace and Gromit! Tony Thanks! This is definitely a learning curve but one I have my whole life to adjust to! Overall I have been fortunate with my recovery and everything else! Just started back to work this week and happy to be back! Sharon Hi Axe Wound Boy do I feel your pain! I am brand new on this site, which is why I am only responding now. I too had my anus and rectum removed, and it took 2 1/2 years to close!! Home nursing care every day didn’t do it - hyperbaric oxygen therapy did! My wound didn’t close because of radiation injury, so I needed the hyperbaric medicine treatment in order to force it to grow new vascular tissue. After 6 weeks of daily treatments (I had to stay in another city during that time) the wound and the surrounding tissue had turned a healthy pink - because oxygenated blood was finally getting to it. It took another few months to close, but it has stayed closed. I am tenacious- I consulted 8 doctors to get some answers about my recalcitrant wound; the 8th doctor recommended hyperbaric TMTs. I am a firm believer in being your own advocate! If I hadn’t been, I would still have a bleeding wound. I hope you have healed, but if you haven’t, please look into hyperbaric medicine. Just a semicolon It took about 6 weeks for my wound to heal completely. I had dissolvable sutures, so no removal required. It did weep for about 4 weeks, and it was not a pleasant smell. I just showered regularly and gently washed with warm water in the shower. Had my Dr's okay for that. Surprisingly, I never really had any pain back there. I still have dreams that I am pooping back there, and can't figure out how it's happening, then a wake up. ? Ulcerative Colitis (1995)
