Hi Folks, Recently we have had a few posts about experiences after surgery. Suffering with a long illness having a stoma can be a relief and the ticket to getting back to leading a normal life. Then we have the other side of the coin the emergency ostomy. its easy to see how traumatic this can be!! Either way our bodys and life have changed for good. One thing I will say, don't judge the future by the first weeks or even months. Being in pain, having this foreign object and the new problems it can present its so easy to get into a bad place. Their is help for problems of all sorts, don,t bottle feelings up, use forums like this to discuss work with your stoma nurse. Their is very little an ostomate cant do, and for any young person I will say you don't have to start dressing old. Yes it wont be a fashion parade for a while but once the stoma site heals a lot of options are out their. Eric has don't interviews with a number of young woman and would any one even know they had a stoma or what they have been through. This all does come together believe me. ileostomy 31st August 1994 for Crohns Either way our bodys and life have changed for good. One thing I will say, don't judge the future by the first weeks or even months. This is so important to remember! Life changes so much during the first little while and the beginning is often the most difficult. Just your friendly neighborhood ostomate.
